Below is the only H-D Motorcyke tank that ever surfaced. And it was NOS.
The hanger brackets and screws were sealed in a small manila envelope
within the tank.
Tank ended up in a Model 419 H-D bicycle, belonging to Mel Short.
Odd as it may seem, the Model 419 with the short headtube was the
machine that the factory chose to carry an optional tank.
No tank or literature has ever come into the light regarding the Model 419
with a five-inch (+/-) headtube.
Some twenty-years ago, I was receiving CASH OFFERS between five and
eight thousand Simoleons. Mel and I did a trade ... he received the tank ...
I received a headbadge that NO-ONE could have obtained except for Mel.
This machine has been brought-up as a RUSTORATION.
The frame has the numbers ''357'' stamped into the starboard
side of the seatpost cluster ... a small aluminum tag is hanging
from the saddle chassis ... it is stamped ''357'' and has instruct-
tions for a ''finder'' to return the machine to W.F. Meyer ... that is,
to his very big distributorship.
The rear-hub is a ''racing'' variety, WRIGHT'S PATENT ... with
tapered roller bearings.
I do show a Wright's Patent racing hub below the badge fotos.
This particular hub has been featured recently on the CABE.
It is owned by someone other than myself. Everything about this
machine is of the period.
