awesome info! So, should I play it safe and start with a little heat and a plastic scraped? Maybe a little wiping with some mineral spirits.
I would guess its spray paint, with no prep before painting, cause the spots of green on the frame that are showingw, shine like new paint. I don't see...
Gonna try and dig into the hiawa today. Anyone have any tips for getting the layer of paint off of the original paint? It looks like the original green underneath has a nice shine to it, and i was able to scrape some paint off last night with the plastic end of a bic lighter, but i didn't want...
I recently purchased an old skiptooth hiawatha ( see http://thecabe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?18360-ok-I-guess-its-time-to-admit-it.....-I-m-addicted.-skip-tooth-Hiawatha-content&p=92554&posted=1#post92554 for pics) it looks as if was painted at one time red white and blue, the paint is...
Yeah, I'm in no hurry on doing something with it, just excited on the new find. If most people think it should stay together, than together it will stay. I might go to the swap meet Memory Lane in Grand Rapids OH is having late next month, maybe i can find someone who wants to restore it, I...
Well, I have a '54 Colson I just bought a couple months ago that I currently ride everywhere. And i don't plan on chopping it up, I think it would look cool without the fenders and chaingaurd, but leave the rear rack on, maybe a two speed hub or something.... Not too sure.
. Anyone know an...
I'm also looking for suggestions on what to do with her. Should I sell her complete, and let someone restore it, or should i sell off the valuable parts, and build a custom bike with the frame? I'm really liking the rat rod style balloon tire bikes.....
Picked up this skip tooth hiawatha at an auction yesterday. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet. Anyone know how I could figure out if its made by shelby, or Cleveland? Appears to be green underneath the blue.
Update.
I picked up the seat I wanted, even though its not the correct one, I like this one, and it was only twenty bucks. Then yesterday I made the trip to Memory Lane and picked up this chaingaurd for fifteen bucks! Dug through a couple hundred fairest, this one was the only dark red one, and...
Found the seat I wanted yesterday! Went to a antique engine show/swap meet/ man flea market in Wellington. Anyone in the area that hasn't been before, its DEFINITELY worth the trip. Tried getting seats just like this one on ebay, but they went for over $100, paid $20 for mine yesterday! Going...
I think I'll pass on the reflector, top priority is that damn seat, and i might go broke getting a decent one. A few I wanted on eBay went for 125-200!! I only paid $25 for the whole bike!
I have what I believe to be a '54 Colson (see thread http://thecabe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?17657-So-I-bought-this-schwinn-out-of-a-barn.....-newb-can-t-figure-out-what-it-is-help!!!&p=88492#post88492 ) and I am looking for a few parts to make it a little more complete. First and foremost...
I found these in a box of bike parts I've had around since high school, thought about maybe selling them on eBay, but couldn't find any info or others like it anywhere on the net. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
If the rims were painted, would they still be Chrome underneath? I see no other signs of the rims being painted, other than, what looks like two or three black pinstripes around the outer edge of the sidewalk of the rim. I really doubt it fan be saved, really only notice they were there cause...
Ok, so the SOS worked, but there's still a lot more to go! It took me an hour and a half to burn up a half dozen SOS pads and barely make a noticible difference. Some of the spokes shined up good! Would the soaking help with the deeper rust?
Would there have been black pinstripe around the...
Great pictures! now I know what I'm hunting down, thats the first step! Just picked up a box of sos pads from the dollar store, so I'm about to head to the shed, remove a rim, and go to town!
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped!!! This is awesome! Now that i know what I have, I can start looking for the correct parts for it. First thing I need to do is get rid of that horrible seat! Any tips on where to find correct parts would be great too! not much on ebay for colson...
So its not a schwinn at all? Does this mean the tires aren't original either? Anyone have a rough estimate of what its worth? (Should I be riding it, or selling it?)
I picked up a happy days/ fonzie tricycle seat at a garage sale last summer. The lady said her mom worked at the factory where they were made and brought it home for her tricycle, but it never got put on. I found it in the basement of her house, on top of the freezer, where it had sat for who...
Here is a picture of the serial number. I can add more pics, this is the only one I have on the internet now. It has schwinn typhoon tires front and rear, original seat, headtube badge, and chaingaurd is gone, so are the hand grips. Rims look as if they use to be chrome, now all rust. Bike is...
