I had a pair in green….girls and boys. Labeled 100th year Anniversary bike (1995) but some could have been fabricated in 1996. Both were in great condition and sold them as a pair for $400 locally 4-5 years ago
I give these guys an A for effort but for me I’d rather have no artistic charm put into my bikes at fine art pricing! I like the patina on my bikes and on my 71 year old body! Ride on, brothers!
UCanes01…James…Welcome to the group. Monark bikes are cool. I don’t have any in my collection but may at some point….I’m actually trying to thin the herd out…it’s hard to do when you love them all. What bikes do you have in your collection, whether it be large or small. Hopefully you have one...
Yes…. The rod brake Raleigh’s are cool. I hear their stopping ability isn’t as good as other Raleigh braking systems but……that’s what a Flintstone Stop is all about!😝
I have a few Raleigh 3 speeds, one being a Surperbe in green and a matching pair of 1974’s from the original owner in brown. I’ve always called my green bike color, bronze green but not sure if that is what Raleigh lists it as…..now, not sure what the correct name is for the brown Sports 3...
Interesting bike…..cool little unique features. I’ll pick up a bike for myself even if it’s not collectible but cool looking! This one has a cool factor. Have fun with your projects.
Well, Mike…..I’m thinking those girls will keep your mind off your upcoming doctor stuff! Let’s get this party started and back to a speedy recovery, buddy!
Awhile back, I got a ‘65 American from a local guy in worse shape than yours and said Ol Lordy, what am I going to do with this rust bucket. Fenders were rotted through, wheels were rusted and paint was a mess. Stripped the bike, painted the old paint/rusted frame with Rust Reformer, put on...
Interesting! I usually have to pry mine off, top and bottom. Maybe someone replaced the original one with another era or repop? Just saw your pic of a Junior…maybe Junior and standard headsets may be slightly different in specs. My concern would be to make sure everything sits properly and...
Not sure what my lightweight Western Flyer girl weighs but still a work out peddling uphill… nothing like steelies and single speed hubs! She’s rollin‘ with blackout ”war time” hubs too!
Just acquired my 1st BMX bike, a chrome 1987 Mongoose Expert with laid back seat post. Lots of elbow grease, chrome cleaner and wax brought it back…too bright to ride it in the sun without sunglasses. Putting it alongside my Schwinn Stingrays.
Nice ay ay ay project Harpo. I’m into one of these projects, too with my ‘51 Columbia Franklinbike.
at least you have close to proper parts on it and not some like mine from the previous owner who must have been on dangerous drugs when building it. He must have been a “crash test dummy” by the...
I found a useful Columbia internal kickstand schematic off one of the other group forums posted by THE BLACK MONARK…..this will help. I can now see it’s a pin and not a screw/screws that holds the kickstand leg in place. I don’t have the special tool to make the removal easier so will have to...
Thanks, HEMI426…Sounds like the info you gave me about possibly two pins on each end sounds about right. They must be retainer pins that go in on each side and fit into a grooved out retainer. there were no visible screwdriver head markings on each top side of “pins”… and if there were a trace...
Still cant get the kick stand to unlock.. I’ve taken the crank off and got into the inside/ backside of the kickstand thru the crank housing and blasted KB in the hole as well as on the other parts of the kickstand with no success. I may have to drill out the pin looking thingy in the pin...
