I want to change these bars out on this bike. They have me way too stretched out. This bike, as you can see, has index shifting. Can I somehow go back to stock bars and put another form of index shifting on? Is that possible?
Very nice! I see that the stem is long, so the sorter bars make up for that? I have a Raleigh Super Grand Prix that I put a shorter stem on and it's quite comfortable now and I ride it in the drops often. I feel like I finally after all these years understand how to make a bike comfortable!
I was given this bike and have been deciding if it's worth putting back on the trails. I like it well enough. I'm a Raleigh Fan. (I haven't been on here in quite awhile. The old car hobby came back. I used to be big into the 3 speeds) It needs the usual maintenance and replacing crusty tires...
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I'm going to have to get a different stem for the one or collect more bikes like the BSA. I would love to find an old RRA from the 30's - 50's in my frame size.
I'll probably do that. I like the bike. It's a smooth ride and a great cheap commuter. I just can't understand why it makes a difference, but apparently it does.
This one is a 1972 BSA 10 speed. I believe it is the same frame as a Raleigh Record of that year. Also the same frame, possibly, of a Raleigh Sports.
I rode it this morning and it's much more comfortable. I'm not sure for how many miles, though. I've had it for awhile now. I rode it to work...
I have this 1978 Raleigh Super Grand Prix that I can't seem to be comfortable on. I'm putting too much weight on my hands and within a minute I can feel the pain. Why? The saddle is as high as it needs to be, I assume. The handlebar stem is as high as it can be. I have moved the saddle forward...
I wasn't able to make it there this year as I was out of town. From what I heard from the friend of mine that put it on it was the biggest it's ever been! Great turnout! Shout out to Paul, Bobbi and Bob!
Nice bike! I had a '51 a few years ago. I posted it here somewhere. It was that orange color, too. Faded out as well. Neat bikes. Kicking myself for selling it now!
Tell you the truth I've not really liked the looks of the bars that my bike came with. They seem....huge.....clumsy. Maybe it's just me? I like that Cinelli 64. If I found something like that what are the odds that my brake/hoods would fit on them? Would they look odd?
Here is my 1977 Raleigh Record Limited. (I did put it up on eBay, but in case it doesn't sell I'm thinking ahead) Before I bought it there were many improvements made to the bike and it's a great rider, but I can't get used to how far stretched out I feel. I've ridden it on a ride for 70+ miles...
This bike ('78 Raleigh) came to me with 700 rims and 700x25C tires. The bike shop sold me some used 700x28C Gatorskin tires. These fit on the front just fine, but might be a bit too big to put on the rear without deflating the tire completely. Now, this morning I was looking through my parts...
Are these complicated to work on? I’d like to take them apart and clean them up. They seem to work just fine as is. They are on my recently acquired ‘78 Raleigh Super Grand Prix.
That is absolutely beautiful!! I wonder if it's almost the same frame size and dimensions as my '72 BSA which they say is most like the Raleigh Record of the same year. It's probably a shorter wheelbase/frame much like a Raleigh Sports 3 speed. More close-up pictures?
And I just noticed that the brake levers aren't stock, either.... lol I suppose the guy upgraded with some better parts? Is that possible? I've always liked to keep things stock so it will bother me a bit. That's just my OCD. I think if I don't put too much into it I'll be alright and it'll be a...
Well, darn, it's not completely stock. You'll have that. Well, it's close and it'll ride. I can look for stock components someday......unless these are better? The wheels are also mis-matched. I assume the front one is stock? Here is the front derailleur........
Looks like I can't stay away from Raleigh bikes. I had to bring this one home. It was less than $100 so I didn't think that was too bad. It doesn't appear to need too much. Does it look like it's all original? The wheels may not quite match. The brochures all show the bike as having 'Bar...
Not far from me, 40 miles, is a fairly clean looking Nomad. It's silver. Has stem shifters. It appears to be all there. Looks quite rideable, but probably could use a cleaning, greasing and maybe new tires. He is asking $50. What can you tell me about these bikes? This model? I've always been a...
I've seen one of these in Iowa here for sale. It was/is black with a white head tube. They claim it was a 1967. I was nearly tempted to buy it. It's an intriguing model. I once bought a chain-wheel like that for another bike. I didn't know what it came off of. Doing a search for 'Raleigh Decals'...
