The reason the reality TV shows show complete "restorations" on cars is because people like watching the work. Not much interest staring at a car for an hour that is already nice. None of these are really restorations, mainly because very few people know how to apply single stage paint. In my...
"... but yours is definately a 1962, not a '61..."
I double checked my serial number with Ken Koval's list. I had a brain cramp. My bike is a '63 (M585264). I pulled out my file on the bike and of course I had it as a '63 - just spaced out on the year. I have a really nice Columbia catalogue...
Nice bike Wayne. Gotta love the Firebolt. Here are some pix of my '61, also original and unrestored. Mine has the horn in the tank, but otherwise pretty much the same bike.
I just got a 1960 Columbia Torpedo girls bike, NOS, still in the original box, never assembled. Unless this is a scam I think I did pretty well. I was the only bidder, probably because it was in the wrong category. I'll keep you posted. Here's the link to the auction...
I'm mostly a lurker/reader and don't post much, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents here. Collecting bikes (Columbia middleweights) is one of my hobbies behind collecting 60s era Mercedes finback sedans and Dobro guitars (what we now have to call Resophonic guitars since Gibson started suing...

I was planning to go to the Eden swap meet since I am only about an hour away. Unfortunately I am double booked that weekend and have to attend a wedding. I was going to bring my Firebolt to sell. Here's a pic of it:
I thought it was probably too high but I have no knowledge of these bikes. It never hurts to make an offer. Too bad I missed the swap meet. How can I be notified or find out about it next time?
Here's a link to a CL ad for a 1910 Columbia. I'm not into these - middleweights are my thing - but thought someone here might be:

I've got a pretty nice Thunderbolt. Cool bike but really heavy with the integral frame rack. Have you trued the wheels yet? It is pretty easy to do, and there are several good how to articles on the web. You can buy spoke wrenches at any bike shop pretty cheap. Just turn the bike upside down and...
For anyone interested, here's a collection for sale in eastern Ohio near P'burgh. He will only sell the whole thing. Mostly banana bikes.

This may be old news to some of you but here's a link to a Craigslist ad near Philly with a boatload of bikes. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/2133662542.html The seller is probably known to those of you who are deeper into the subculture than I am, but check it out. Also, I just started...
Thanks for the input. Unfortunately the steer tube is bent right near the crown and also in the center.
I don't want to fatigue the metal and find out the hard way it was a bad idea. I guess I'm just going to have to find a decent replacement and try to get the original paint matched. Luckily...
I've got my really nice '59 Columbia Thunderbolt torn down and have discovered a bent steer tube. No doubt an adolescent previous owner jumping curbs. I want to straighten it rather than replace the fork to keep it original. Any ideas on how to straighten it w/o ruining the paint. I tried using...
