It's been 11 years since I built that 51 for my wife (our birth year). My boss had it plus a 53 Phantom. The Phantom was all original and I sold it for him. He gave me the 51. But I regress. I'm pretty sure that fender was chrome and I blasted it then powder coated it.
I need a ducktail rear fender that fits my 50 Panther. I was told a Phantom won't work. I need it for this bike.
It's a 90% unmodified Schwinn (ie; no schwinn parts were harmed on this build). Some compromises were made. The spring yoke is obviously a low rider part. Also went with wider rims...
Thanks for your reply. Yeah I should've specified that, a rear. The bike is a 51 Panther. The rear fender is definitely Schwinn. Any ideas which model?
I started out on Hodakas. Then moved up to German iron.
In late 74 I bought a 75 Bultaco. I never really got along with the Spanish brand. What can I say, it wasn't German.
So in late 77 I bought a 400 Maico Magnum. To this day that was my favorite bike.
I bought a 82 250 Maico. It...
Oh man Deckels are the shizzle! At Ventana I spent a lot of time in front of a Bridgeport and a Cincinnati. I favored the Bridgeport only because I was taught on it. Fun stuff was setting them both up for a production run.
Looks like a fun group. Yeah I rode for quite a while. We're all in our 60s and 70s now and ride E bikes. Health reasons put me on a E. My buddies got them because they got tired of watching me fly by on climbs. I'm looking at the end of it, but I've got a couple of years left. I got a mtn to...
Here's a couple more.
Mark "Rubberman" Gibson @ Mammoth Bar Auburn, Ca. 1974
Steve Stackable "Short Stack" he was about 6'2" Carnegie Cycle Park, Livermore, Ca. 1973
Dave Longcor at speed. Helvetia Park, Ca. 1975
David Bailey Carlsbad, Ca. 1982?
Kevin Henry, Helvetia Park, Ca.1975...
Before mtn bikes I raced MX. I had my camera with me at the races.
Dick "Bugsy" Mann @ Plymouth, CA. This is part of the old Hangtown track. Vintage early 70s.
Funny people think of us as junk collectors or hoarders. There are some very impressive collections here. There's also impressive people behind those collections.
Oh yeah! In 1969 my dad told me he was going buy a Olds 442. I almost passed out. You see it was my senior year in high school. Dreams of leaving the parking lot wheels afire! He ended up buying a 69 Impala, 2 door, metallic green, black vinyl top, 350, auto, DAAAAAD (in my best whiny voice)...
I pulled this out of the back shed. I planned on selling it. I put air in the tires and rode it around the neighborhood. Ef that! I'm keeping it! Instead of selling I purchased a drop stand for it. The addiction runs deep.😎
It's going on a 50 straight bar frame. Forget what it is, just paint doesn't matter.
Hoagie57, no thanks.
If you don't have a tank don't post here. Go to one of my other posts and harass me there.☺️
Looking for a Schwinn straight bar tank (aren't we all) for a 50 Panther. Under $300, paint doesn't matter. Thanks
Fairly straight, no rust holes.
I'm not desperate yet🤞
Time to thin the herd. I was told this is a 1936 but I'm not sure. I've never seen a 5 digit (02350) Schwinn serial number before. It might possibly be because it's a 20" frame. ACE badged Schwinns were made between 1933-1948.
I will part the bike out if you want. Frame and fork only, bike with...
Thanks Adrian. I had a couple of seizures that affected my memory. I'm ok, still a functioning human. But certain blocks of memory are wiped clean. It's like I know that's a 51 straightbar but what the hell is that other frame. Or "I owe you money???".
Single front chainring requires lots-o-gears 10-50 12 speed. It allows more room for wider bottom bracket spindles to accommodate suspension designs. Front derailleur are things of the past. But yeah it climbs pretty good. Sram just came out a 10-52 to compete with Shimano's 10-51. I'm heading...
