This bike was built by Murray so if you're not dead set on a specific "Sonic Flyer" branded bike, you can broaden your search a bit. For example the Murray Meteor Flite, or Missile are pretty much the same bike. There would have been a Sears/Jc Higgins branded version as well.
They could just be modern generic grips. Example https://www.ebay.com/itm/272857421102?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&customid=link&campid=5335809022&toolid=20001&mkevt=1
Guess the one that sold last year in Ohio was a real bargain!

Here's an example branded "Gresham Flyer" that is probably from the same time period. https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/aberdale-gresham-flyer.5068/
I think mid 1950's to early 60's is probably a safe estimate. It looks like the rear wheel was swapped out since the rim design is different from...
Outside of "Montgomery Ward Hawthorne", I'm not sure how they named individual models. I found a 1950 ad which mentions "DeLuxe Tank" models, "Special Tank" models, "Standard Tank" models, and "Unequipped" bikes. For the unequipped bikes the mens single speed is listed as "60W 3032F" which I...
It probably takes 26x1.375 (599 iso) which are not reproduced, and by now even NOS tires are half a century old. That's really the main downside to lightweights from that era. Some people say you can stretch a 26x1-3/8 S6 (597 iso), but I've never tried it.
I have to wonder why this frame didn't get the lead filler on the joints filed down. Typically Schwinns had a very nice and smooth finish. Maybe it was built first shift on monday, or last shift on friday?
I picked up a girls donor bike a few days ago and swapped the wheels, bars and pedals to my motobike. I wouldn't have chosen this color combo, but I don't hate it.
It's a pretty common design, although there is some variation in design. I'm pretty sure it was being used until the 70's when cottered cranks fell out of fashion. Atlas comes to mind, even sugino in Japan made some with this same design. If you search ebay for "vintage crankset" or "cottered...
I don't know what year Sears started importing lightweights, 1950-1952ish? The 1952 catalog states that they are imported from France or the Netherlands. My guess is that this bike would be one of the early 50's models.
It's an OSO bike. It's not a track bike, but a single speed road bike/city bike with a coaster brake. I think they came out in mid 2008, not sure how many years they were available though. The website is gone now.
Why is there such a wide price range for whizzers? I know the factory built models like the ambassador, pacemaker, and sportsman bring pretty good money these days, but what about the kit bikes? Are bikes built on a Whizzer specific Schwinn frame more desirable than a kit on any old standard...
I realize it would be an expensive restoration canidate, I'm just trying to figure out what a fair "market value" is. There aren't really any past sales to use for reference for a bike in this condition. I feel like motor, tank, and sheave would bring like $300-$350 and the bike would bring...
I don't have a lot of info, so I apologize for that. I'm interested in a bike that's pretty rough but don't know a fair ballpark figure to offer. It looks like it's a prewar Shelby? bicycle I'm waiting to hear back about the serial so I don't know if it's a J or H. The motor appears to be...
Brooks basically nailed the leather racing saddle design from the start. There isn't really much difference from a 1890 brooks b16 and something like the b17 that you can buy today.
Here's a Hartford with the same crank and sprocket. I think Op's bike is a few years newer though. https://copakeauction.hibid.com/lot/39100088/1890s-vedette-ladies-hard-tire-safety-bicycle/?q=&ref=catalog
