I personally like nice condition original paint bikes. Like somebody posted earlier, take a condition 5-6 bike and with some elbow grease make it a 7-8. You can still see all the battle scars they are just a bit shiny!
My next bike is going to have to be a crusty. I'm out of room in the garage...
I'm surprised me and my brother are not dead from those things. We used to throw them straight up and then run around trying not to get hit. Crazy times!
I'm 6' 1" 240 lbs (I know fat) and have never had a problem with any of my bikes. Never broke a spoke. I like the advice earlier about riding style. I think that makes a difference.
I have a 1980 DL-1. Great unique riding bikes. Brakes are another story!
I cleaned and regreased my Sturmey Archer.
I use 3-1 Machine Oil a couple of times per year.
The regular 3-1 is vegetable based and is bad to use is what I heard.
Hi,
I'm looking for a nice condition (not rusty, bent or cracked) Schwinn red 9 hole rear rack. This is to fit a '46 Schwinn DX. Please let me know if you have one to sell.
Thanks.
Bob
Great info!
"The black KS above with the chrome fenders reminded me of this... quirky fun fact; Twinn (Tandem) middleweight fenders have the same hole position and fit a KS frame perfectly."

Just use Bikeflights or Shipbikes. com. Their prices are way better than the FedEx or UPS counter rates. Best still is that the box is shipped by FedEx.
I shipped a bike last wee. FedEx rate was $100. Shipbikes.com was $48. Same address. Same dimensions. Quick and easy to print a label with them.
I'm packing up a 50's Schwinn bike for shipment. I've shipped half a dozen bikes over the past year but never one with a springer fork. Typically on a bike with a standard fork I put one of those plastic spacers in the drop outs, wrap everything well and turn the forks backwards.
What do you...
Well it is in a place called Compton.
Because the bikes are stored off site for security reasons, I can show maybe one or two at the most. And we'll probably meet in the LC Police parking lot for security reasons. I'll send you details on the bike. Then you decide if it is worth looking at...
