    My first vintage Stingray

The seat on the midget is a repop. Check to see if the chain on the '69 says "Sedis". I can't remember if the Mag sprocket still said "patent pending" in '69 or if that was only on the '67-'68 models. Was the mag sprocket first available in '67 or '66? I think '67.

    1965 black schwinn stingray deluxe

The seat on Tammy's bike bears a tag that is a post-'70 tag. It does not have the patent number on it.

    1963 Sears StratoFlite

That is one really clean, great looking bike. I'd love to have any of the Fliteliners/Spaceliner, Stratoflite, etc. made by any of those companies mentioned in this thread.

Stingray krate ifo Seria and information

The cables are supposed to be gray, not white. Wrong pedals. Those are the '68-'70 style. Rear sissy bar shock springs are worn-out. There shouldn't be a clip on the left for the disc brake cable. It has the wrong brake strap. It should be a Bendix B-2 with the 3 holes. Probably doesn't have the...

    Rescued Muscle Bike Identity?

The head badge looks like it might be the K-Mart All Pro. I had a '74 All Pro (Sting-Ray style) with a black seat for Christmas back then.

    Craigs List sadness

What does it say on the chainguard, "Vista . . ." Who made this bike? Canadian?

    Stingray seats

We need to start a parts recognition area in the Sting-Ray section here for ALL the Sting-Rays/Krates/Manta-Rays and maybe include the girls style Sting-Rays, as well. All Chicago-made ones from '63-'81.

    Stingray seats

I don't know enough about them to inform you about all the differences of the seats. I do know that there were 2 different seat styles for the '68-'73 Krates/Sting-Rays. I think from the first Sting-Rays in '63 through the '67 model year, there were 3 different ones? The flat, Polo seat and then...

FS one of the coolest Muscle Bikes Made! Chopper King CAT!

These were from the late '70's. There were 3 different ones. Another one, if I remember correctly, was the Desert Cat.

West Point Bicentennial, what do you think?

$75 for either one sounds like a solid buy. That is one rare bicentennial bike.

    What am I missing!?

Ahh, the prices have gotten crazy, stupid for some of these bikes. Just recently, some idiot was trying or was successful in selling a '69 Krate for like $3000.+ I wanted to write him/her a strongly worded message. I decided to let any sucker buy it, if they were that stupid.
  12. krateman

    What am I missing!?

It's a TOTAL frankenbike. Buy it, part it out.

    Dec 63 Terra-cotta

Was the Terra Cotta a one-year-only color? I know that Tony Abraham has or had one. I heard they are very hard to find.

Help with year on two seats

I was wondering on the details myself about these two style mounts. I have seen the raised seat mount with the straight tabs on a '71. I think in '72 they changed to the style on the right, but it still had the reflector tab and did not have the name Persons on it. I need the later, btw, if...

    Sold Parts For Sale

Oops. I just saw that G has been sold. Have another 18" seat?
  16. krateman

When was disc brake put on Krate?

No, the '71 Grey Ghost was not made. That would've been a '72 model. There are no real Grey Ghost disc brakes, unless Schwinn just decided one day to change around all their production practices to make a special Grey Ghost for those future collectors to ooh and ahh over. Dec. of each year was...

    18 Inch Sting-Ray/Krate Seat

Hello. I'm looking for an 18" banana seat for the late Krate bikes. It has the different seat post mount than the pre-'72's. It will be recovered, so that does not matter. I need a seat pan that has usable tabs and a usable rear reflector tab, too. As long as the two pans are usable and not...

My "chrome Cousins" Together For The First Time

JD, keep buying the tank lights! I love them and I will buy one, some day, for my wife and I. I still have that '73 Orange Krate project to finish before the Spring!

    Krate Parts Needed

Hello. I am in need of a few parts to finish my Krate for Spring. I need a rear S-2 28 spoke wheel (20"), and a correct cable clamp for the front drum brake. Mine currently has the '68 style clevis/eye clamp. If you have it, I also need a better spoke protector, too. I think mine is a repro and...

Rescued this AMF Roadmaster Today from the Original Owner!

Nice bike. I love the '60's tank bikes, especially the tank light bikes. My '60 Huffy El Dorado has the same fenders. It looks like it will clean-up nicely. Good luck.

    ... Spaceliner CL find ...

How much did it run you? What is the top price for one that is pristine and what would be the "average" rider-condition price?

    Rare Ross bikes

I hope to see progress pics or a surprise "here it is" after you finish restoring it! Neat rarity. I like the little-known and esoteric ones; not so much the common ones.

    Krate/Sting-Ray Parts Needed

Correction on my post. A side-stamped S-2 is correct for the '68-'73's? I still need the other parts, along with a seat pan and it's hardware. Thanks, if you can help me out with anything.

Info/parts needed for my ratty 69 Lemon Peeler

First of all, you need to learn how to form a sentence. Damn. What are you asking for? My first Krate was a '69 Lemon. Your questions make no sense at all. Geeesh.

    Chrome Frame Middleweights

Really? You have always been the champion of the middle-weight tank light bikes! Darn. I was hoping to get a few of them from you for my wife and I. Ok, well . . .

    Krate/Sting-Ray Parts Needed

Hello. I need the following parts for a '73 Krate: a drum brake clamp for the '69-'73 models, an inner tube for the 16"front tire, the hardware for the rear fender, the cable and speedo drive for a 16" wheel(Krate), a correct-for-'73 S-2 wheel for a Krate (center stamped). I have heard that...

    ... Spaceliner CL find ...

I really like these Spaceliners. Not sure if I would want the "7" style tank or the other one. Great find man. If we could only be so lucky. I may have to hit up my local CL for a bike soon! Wish me luck!
  30. krateman

    Here for any Ross fans

I really like that red '67. I've got an old '60 Huffy El Dorado that I need to unload, so I can go buy another tank light bike from JD, if he has a really cool looking one for sale.

    Chrome Frame Middleweights

Let's see some pics of the ones mentioned. I'm familiar with the Spaceliners which are one of my favorite tank light bikes.

    Chrome Frame Middleweights

JD, you truly are the king of tank light bikes. I still need to buy one from you, probably; one fo rme and one for my wife.

I'm going to get one with the chrome frames. I think maybe a red tank. Not sure. Nice bike.

    1969 Schwinn Lemon Peeler...100% Original

My first Krate was a '69. I went through it with a fine-toothed comb. I even took the derailleur completely apart. Your's is a 1970 model, since it was made in Dec. of '69.

    Firestone Muscle Bike Help

First time I've ever seen one. Really cool, I agree.

    Original Feb 70 Cotton Picker

Nice. I'm wondering if Feb. '70 was the last month they put the serial numbers on the rear drop-out. I know in 1970 they changed it to the head position.

    My 68 Ramshorn basement rescue

I don't think the chainguard would've been changed out, but who knows. I'd love to have a Violet '67 Ram's Horn or a Black one. Violet was not available for any model in '68. Sorry about that. I would've loved to see a Violet Krate or a purple one.

    1973 Orange Krate on Ebay?

Disc brake Krates in good to great condition on ebay are regularly selling there for over $3,000. I have a great condition '73 Orange with the disc and I wouldn't sell it for less than 3K, at least. Five years ago you could've bought one for about $1,800.-$2,200.+. Maybe a little more in some...

    Sting-Ray tires through the years

That would be a great learning tool for many people just getting started in the muscle bike hobby. I would like to brush-up on my Krate/Sting-Ray tire knowledge. I know the knobby tractor tires were the first ones on the '63 1/2 Sting-Rays. I know the raised white letter slicks were on the Dec...
  42. krateman

When was disc brake put on Krate?

I am in agreement with those that sayeth the disc was really only on the Dec. '71's and later, until Oct. '73, which is the latest Krate I've personally seen. I seriously doubt that there are any Nov. '73's with a factory disc brake, although those were not '74 models, so maybe there were. I've...

    1960 Huffy Eldorado; What's correct? What's not?

Classicfan, the wheels on my Eldo are two different ones. I think the seat is a replacement because it is supple and not well-worn, I think. The front wheel has a plastic bearing inside the hub. The back wheel may be original, I think. The fenders are peaked. The gooseneck is original, I...

  46. krateman

    1981 lemon peeler?

The headbadge will have a 4-digit stamping on it, starting I think, in '76? It, too, can help you date your bike very easily. It will give you the number of the day and year of production. I think the first 3 digits give the calendar day( i.e. 340 would be the 340th day of the year) and the last...
  47. krateman

    1981 lemon peeler?

WHY is that date incorrect? HS is an Aug. '81 bike. Schwinn made their own bikes until '82. After that, Giant from Taiwan finished their production in '83, if I'm not mistaken.
  48. krateman

    Stingray people!

I was able to find most of my dated parts on feebay pretty easily. Good luck.
