Very cool bike. Love the klunkers. My advice on the drum brake, don’t expect much braking power. You may want to add a front hand brake for added stopping power.
This arrived today. 1950. I was hoping there was light blue paint under the ugly stuff on the front fender. Crazy how just the front fender can be so much more weathered than the rest of the bike. Unfortunately I don’t think it can be revived. Go fenderless? Look for a match?
Offering up what appears to me to be New Old Stock New Departure model D hub and Sweetheart Chainring. I’m not making any guarantee it actually is NOS but I can detect no evidence either has ever been installed. There is some very minor shelf wear to both. I’m offering For sale as a set. Hub...
Nice original chrome Schwinn Rear drum Forebrake with non script lever and Repop cable. Includes Clovis and barrel adjuster. Pork chop and lever have a few nicks and scratches. Schwinn Pat Pending embossed on hub. Spoke holes will accommodate .105 spokes. Has desirable 20 tooth sprocket...
I thought I knew what I had but now I don’t know. The bike is serial H273813. It is stamped on the bottom of the crank tube. Anglefire list the serial as July 27, 1951. The bike is a straightbar with the feather (not wing) chainguard plain front fork (no truss rods), No headlight, and no...
Some mink oil on that seat will darken it up and give it more of an aged look. I like the bike. Seems like folks are either a Phantom lover or their not. They definitely have their own vibe unlike other Schwinn models. I owned one for a while. Best riding bike I ever owned. Hope you find...
I don’t mind at all.
1. Start with a coat of Microset decal setting solution so the decal is well “stuck” to the paint. Let set overnight.
2. Take a utility or Exacto knife and give it a few nicks and scratches, dragging the tip of the blade sideways taking very small bits off around the...
I have an old beater that I’m riding right now. It had a repainted chain guard missing the decal. I put a new decal on it which stood out like a sore thumb So I set out to distress it to match the Original seat post decal as best as my skills allow. The issue I could not resolve is the red...
Just finished lubing up this old 53 Spitfire for a rider. Took it out for its first run this past Wednesday. Looks Ratty but rides smooth as can be. Perhaps I’ll find a maroon front fender one day....
Hey buddy! Hope you’re doing well. Yep, it’s getting pretty boring around here. I finished my new shop and I had an old 50’s straightbar sitting out back that I decided to get rolling. Found myself pulling out boxes of parts that still had the movers inventory labels on them. Good to hear...
I have a early 50’s 26” straight bar Hornet (probably) missing a chain. It has a 26t sweetheart skiptooth front sprocket and 11t rear sprocket. Can anyone tell me what length skiptooth chain I need? Thanks
Dan
Scrubbie = 3M abraisive pad. Their made in several different grades fine to course. Used a very fine grade so as not to loose the white graphics and pins on the C model above. It works with patience.
