They're neat bikes. The ignition coil recently went out on mine and I had to replace it (thanks http://www.bikebug.net/). But now something else is wrong with it, and I'm not a motor guy so I'll have to take it to a mechanic. I rode it every where last summer. And when it was on my newer Schwinn...
Here's my Porkchop, I made a few changes since this picture but you get the idea.
Nice True Torch, looneymatthew, how do they feel. They look like they'd be perfect for cruising.
Awesome build, I really love these things.
The only problem is that it would probably be super expensive to restore.
Are you planning to re-anodize the parts or buy new ones?
This is a chrome frame Huffy Silverjet or maybe a Monark. I reconditioned it and was ridding it for a while.
Everything is original except the wheels, fenders ( both from a Murray Westport) and the chain. It rides pretty good
and the chrome is in ok shape with some rust on the around the seat...
I pulled this out of a barn not to long ago and realized I have too many projects to get to this anytime soon.
I think it is a hawthrone. The only issues are the bent fork and mismatched wheels.
It looks pretty original other than that. I'm asking $65 plus shipping.
Here are some pics...
It was a complete rust bucket when I found it and I fixed it to be ride able.
Originally it had pre war Schwinn lightweight rims on it but I switched them
out for some 50's ballooner rims. It has a horn tank, the horn doesn't work
but I do have it, and a locking fork that I got a new key...
Yeah, leopards were about the only feline schwinn never named a bike after.
The guy probably got his cats mixed up, but it still sounds like a good bike to have.
I bought this from a guy who got it from an old bike shop. It's stamped Lobdell and has pretty good chrome. It is in as found condition so it should really shine if cleaned. The wood is still good and in useable shape. I don't know if I measured them right but I got 23" in diameter and 1 7/16"...
Yeah, its pretty common and it might depend on where you are posting too. Every time I post I get at least 2 spam emails from the same person who can't spell and has terrible grammar. Its like the emails were run through Google Translator. So I just delete them and make sure I put my phone...
The only time it would be a 1933 is if it looked like this... http://luxlow.com/wp-content/themes/briefcaseold/functions/timthumb.php?src=http://luxlow.com/wp-content/uploads/110310_bib10esidesm.jpg&h=220&w=220&zc=1
The others with this frame style are of a later date...
I've seen a few on ebay but they're usually out of my price range.
This would be a nice one to have... http://www.mikeybike.com/1950travismotorbike.html
If I had $1800.
Thanks for the responses.
There were some cheap new whizzers near me on Craigslist and I thought it would make a fun project to stick one on it. My first step would be to "restore" the bike and I wanted to know if frame modifications would be necessary before paint. Right now I'm stuck on the...
I have a '51 Schwinn Leader (B.F. Goodrich) and it has the standard Schwinn Ballooner frame.
My Question is, would a whizzer belt fit the bike as it is or would there need to be modifications done to it?
These came off my Manton and Smith balloon tire bike. I'm guessing they are from a light weight Schwinn.
Rims are 26x1.375" and are a rusty cream color. The front hub is a Schwinn and the back is a New Departure
coaster brake, which is missing the bolts. Both hubs have good chrome (under the...
I'd decided to sell my Manton and Smith tanker. Not sure of the year but it looks like its late 40's. It's all original except the wheel set, it came with pre war lightweight wheels and I added postwar ballooners from a Huffman. It has a locking fork and I have had a key made for it. The...
That is not a Schwinn, but it is a Sears ( I think). That is one of the most expensive and rare bikes out there. SO, to answer your question...Its worth A LOT!
Decals
I recently got the decals on and forgot to post pics.
Here they are...
Now I'm finishing up painting the guard and light. Then I can pinstripe, clearcoat, and finally be done.
If you are going to paint them I would go with originals. But if you need them chrome I would get those. The usual generic fenders need to be modified to fit a bike like drilling holes or bending them to fit, but since these say they are made for Schwinns it might be different.
And if you want...
Paint/ Frame and Forks
I decided on an emerald green for the color.
Here are some pics of the frame and fork.
I still need to add the decals and clear coat before I can assemble.
But it should be done, or close, by the end of next week.
I have a 1951 Schwinn that has been painted over twice and I am using xylene for the first coat and very fine steel wool and wd-40 for the second. It takes a while but it has the best results for me.
'54 Jag
I finished up "fabricating" and I can now take it apart to paint. I'm thinking about making crashrails for the seat but I can deal with that later.
When I'm done with this it should look like it just rolled out of the Schwinn factory in 1954 ( hopefully).
Here's a quick mock up of the bike so far. Still have to add the seat, brake levers/cables, and headlight. I'm thinkin' green but I'm always changing my mind.
Its looking like a Jag.
First of all, post pics! This sounds like a cool bike.
Does it have s-7 or balloon rims?
I'm not sure about the decals, I'm making a Schwinn Jaguar that is around the same age as your tiger and i found decals for it on Ebay but I'm not sure at Tiger decals.
The seat would be a messenger...
Jaguar on Ebay
Check out this Jag on Ebay...http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1954-Schwinn-Balloon-Tire-Jaguar-/290574659279?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a7996ecf
Its a little (a lot) out of my price range but I want to buy it. But where's the fun in that... right?
Wow akikuro, that's my dream bike. Well at least one of 'em. Those three speed ballooners have to be the best setup for a bike...EVER.
After this build I've been tossing around the idea to make a roadmaster flying falcon. Or maybe restore one, but I think they're rarer than a Jag.:(
