I'm not familiar with the Morrow hub, but I have seen 3/8x26tpi on some axles other than British stuff. From the looks of the above foto, this looks like a 24tpi threaded onto a 26tpi, or vice versa. They interface nicely until about a half inch together. Half the difference of 26-24=2/2=1...
Floyd, there aren't enough likes. I mean there are, but my finger will get tired of pushing the button. Beautiful work. Thanks for showing us how it's done, the right way!
Lovely bike Marius. The SK with 24” wheels handles fenders nicely. I opted to squeeze 26” wide rims and tires and forego the fenders.
Here’s the front with no truss rods. The tire interferes with truss bracket.
Rear wheel needs the axle most of the way back.
I really wanted the truss, so I...
Looks like a Columbia Expert. I'm going with mid to late 80s. Try looking on the backbone near the head for serial numbers. It's hard to see, but is there a dust cover on the headstock? This often has the manufacturer's name. Wheel size is usually stamped on the left fork, I believe.
No, that was the late great Steve Gordon. It was shot in Pasadena for the Guinness book. I think it was ‘84. This is the builder Dave Moore and me on the second and last ride of its life for a Guinness TV special. It’s a 10 foot diameter wheel. It is now yard art in Apple Valley, CA
At this point my shop looks like a mess. Everything that was once inside is stashed in a container. Once the original roof came off an unexpected storm blew into town and trashed the drywall. But, I’m hanging on tight and the last of the roofing goes on today. Siding comes next. I’m hoping to...
Eureka has a Coast Guard Station on Humboldt Bay. The housing is a few miles away from the boats and helicopters. This barn serves as the housing office, a rec-room, and a maintenance shop. It’s a lovely structure. Classic Gambrel roof. Often called a Dutch Roof, the Gambrel originated in...
eBay #161452332400 I don't know the size you're looking for, but I'd guess this item is close to it. Fastenal would also be an option. Adding an appropriately sized washer will complete the look. Try Googling square head flange machine bolt.
Feeling very lucky. A buddy calls me up and says he’s got a mid-life crisis car with my name written all over it. I said I wasn’t interested because I’ve had too many MLCs already. He wouldn’t take No for an answer. 1988 with just under a hundred thou. I need some $300 shades!!!
First day of school at Humboldt State brought @gkeep and family up to NorCal. We aired up a few bikes and headed off to Old Town via the bike path.
Old town is old!
@Jesse McCauley posted the idea of a thread about homemade unicycles by @CURTIS L LINDGREN
It was an interesting story by CLL
This foto is 1984 or 85 because my son looks to be about 3 years old. I was inspired by a group of Wheelmen in a parade. There was a guy in Kokomo that made a 40 inch...
Good point, but no dice. The good condition decal in on an American middleweight. The rough one is on my Raleigh that was an export model from England, but this is conjecture. I'm with you on the sheets of transfers. The good one is on a bike that had 3, but 2 of them are mostly gone.
I've got a Raleigh roadster with a decal on the front fender. I've asked before, but no one recognizes it. SIrMike has never seen it before, so I assume it isn't a stock item.
I was approached at the SF weekend by a fellow CABE member telling me he's just seen another one on a bike. Here it is...
Thanks Slick. It's always a great time biking the City.
Gkeep and I motored to the Ferry Bldg. from Alameda. Thanks for the hospitality, Gary.
Home again before the sun sets slowly in the west.
And thanks also to Rudy. Open house is always enjoyable. I'm already looking forward to next year!
Old, 1881 Columbia Standard. This is an open head ordinary.
The spoke nipple at the rim had not yet been figured out.
Early mushroom mounting step.
New. 1965 Raleigh DL1. This bike goes back to the early days of the twentieth century.
The Chinese have copied this British icon and the have...
Wonderful frames. The 1934 and '35 had a clamping style seat post. The '36 and later were wedge style. Yours is later, so it didn't come with a skip tooth drive. But, who cares? Throw a set of wheels on it, and a seat too! Have fun.
The Great Race 2019 started in Riverside, California 8 days ago. It finishes today in Tacoma, Washington. Last Tuesday the drivers stopped in Eureka. The cars were wonderful. My camera ran out of film, so I only got a few pics.
I've done two centuries. The first was a 10 mile loop on a 54 inch hi-wheel. It was 1985 or '86. I was half my age, Scary!
The second was in 1994, again, it was a long time ago and it was also on a Penny Farthing. This was a point to point ride from somewhere around Stratford-upon-Avon to...
The Chicago lock company has a CG series of key codes. CG1, CG2, etc...
They look similar, but they aren't. Look closely at the key slot on the lock. Mine is asymmetrical.
The correct key will be a match to the slot. Here is one that fits my lock and one that doesn't, notice the symmetry of...
I have gone to Google Maps and MapQuest myself. Zooming in shows an alley named "Unnamed Street." It's one block long with a street sign at each end. The signs don't look home made. Perhaps somebody has a friend in the city maintenance yard. Anyway, it is between Jeffery and Pacific just south...
Whenever I travel, I like to go to the local bike shops. Sacramento has a few good ones. Unfortunately the cost of keeping a shop open often drives the owners out business. There was a guy named Mike in SAC that had to close up shop. It was called Vintage Bikes, or maybe he was called Vintage...
Finally, I got to take a ride. It's been at least a couple of months since I've been on a bike. I've been crazy busy. I tore my house to smithereens. No time for much of anything except nose to the grindstone. Up here in Humboldt County there aren't always streets to get there. Sometimes...
A friend had a father who passed away a number of years ago. This South Bend 10K lathe has been sitting idle since then. Last week his mom finally went. He called me up and said, "Come and get it!"
It's the real thing. Forward, backward, three speed ratios, plus a back gear. It had auto feed...
It's been a couple of months since I've been on, or worked on a bicycle. Life gets crazy busy sometimes. Anyway, my project is nearly done and Eureka was having their yearly parade. Today's weather was lovely. Why not? I said to myself. Not a reason in the world why not, so out came the old...
