I believe Schwinn used the Spitfire badged bikes for hardware, appliance, tire, and other department stores that sold bicycles that wasn't Authorized Schwinn Dealers. So they could have their quality products available in every market segment.
Here are pictures of my 1955 Deluxe Hornet badged as a Spitfire. I bought this from the original owner prior to restoring it, and it is the original badge. Also, take note...All '55 Deluxe Hornets came with the open style handlebar stem & bolt on kick stands, not the built in stand ( I replaced my stand with a better one)
