Finally riding a big boys bike

I bought this from a friend a few years ago. Chain guard was missing so I got this one for it. I also added red tires.And it is a large frame, too.It rides smooth and quiet. serial D08096----- 1940 ?

Thank You----- Yes, it is a lower serial no. since the first no. is "0". Maybe someone else will have a guess as to the year.
