The ST'd Company Pedals

Is anyone familiar with these standard company pedals? Along the bottom, it is inscribed STD, Im certain has no relation to the modern acronym. Were these used for racing? This set came off of a bicycle that was set up for track but look more traditional to me. Thanks!
