I was wondering, did a dx ever run a tall oval badge like a hornet, phantom etc. with 81 mm spacing? Every dx I ever seen had a 56 mm Pullman, majestic, century, our own hardware,or something of that nature. Please clear this up for me. Rob.

Good question!!

I know the 24" and 20" ones did, as I have one of each. I have had a half dozen 26" ones, and they all had the smaller badges.

thanks man. i guess if you were ever to see a 26'' dx with the tall oval it would be fake.

So when did the large oval Schwinn headbadge first appear, 1949?

At least with all the research I found.1949 first year.

I think you're generally correct but you know Schwinn...no absolutes. A local buddy in bikes had a fat bar frame with a large headbadge. I would like to get my hands on one of those. It must have been late 48 or very early 49. How cool is that?
