Not seeing much info on these. Was trying to find patents, but I'm guessing the wording is different today than it was 100+ years ago?

This came off the Orient tandem. Wondering if anyone had any clue on maker.

Edit: Only thing I'm finding on 40 hole hubs is that they were popular in Britain (40 back/32 front).

Can a 40-spoke hub be laced into a 36-hole wheel ... in repeating
sections of nine-spokes followed by one-absent ... and the machine
be consistently-reliable ... when wheel is buttoned-up into the ride ?

thanks ... patric

I personally wouldn't know, but if I had to guess, NO. Though it can be put together, I would think that missing spoke would create pull on the spokes next to it, and once they get loose it will continue on to the next ones.

This hub was on a set of Dunlop 40 hole back, 32 front rims. Pretty sure it was used for racing way back in the day.

Got this hub cleaned up today. No brand markings found. Pretty much all of the plating is gone. Cog lock rings are pretty beat up, but useable. Axle cones plating is gone so it doesn't turn to freely.

Guessing this was either Cad or Nickel plating. Would it be worth it to replate? Or maybe just plate the cones and get new bearings?
