WOW, that's a beautiful bike. I think the chainring is wrong--certainly it would have been skip tooth?

Speed chains , where used on a higher end bike In those days !

They are only original once! She is a beauty and worth every penny. I do understand why you fit the Universal repo tires; if only they were available as were the Elizabethtown originals you'd see a lot more of these early singletube safeties pedaled around the local parks ( but likely none quite as nice as yours). Good luck with the sale; were The Copake Auction a live auction this April the bidding for you Ranger would be wild.

Not the case; Mead Rangers, and most other Mead models, in fact used 1/2" drive chains.

I recall that one of my bicycle gurus, the late, great Sheldon Brown of Newton MA, had a Mead Ranger, I believe slightly older than yours. It is cool to see what one looks like up close. Cool "glove box" / tool stash!
