Wore out three sets of tires already!
Working on this horn unit with some success. Can get some noise(vibration), but not quite right. Cleaned points both at top plus down by the magnet. Ran a direct ground wire to rule out grounding issue. Tried changing the gap at the points. Does anyone have any experience or data with these.
Any input very much appreciated.

Wait, what? Your not an Elgin guy. Or are you?
Big money clients bike. Can’t afford them, but I can work on them.
Picking up some work lately. Getting horn and lights working. Using original wires, soldering loops etc. Putting back to factory.
I focus on my C dubs, but appreciate pretty much everything with two wheels. Hope all is good with you.

Did you use any contact cleaner? Its amazing stuff, contacts should be clean. Check the coil , make sure all wires are good .
Definitely cleaned contacts, wires are intact, jumped ground to rule out grounding issue. Can get it to vibrate and make noise, just not quite there. Didn’t know if there were specs to gaps or if anyone had experience with this unit.

How about volts? Is it 6 volt? Also is there some kind of adjustment screw?

3 volt. 2 Inline “D” cells. No adjustment screw like later horns.
First pic. Coil acts as a magnet, pulls 1/8th metal plate towards the coil. A separate thin metal with contacts (metal tab that elbows over the top of the big metal plate) is also pulled in same direction. It then separates the points cutting off power to magnet. This back and forth action causes a rod to impact horn surface.
When gaps are right it will vibrate quickly. I can’t seem to get the gaps just right to sustain a rapid vibration. Sounds more like a rapid telegraph.

Solved the horn issue. My Dad taught me that electrical issues mostly caused by lack of a ground. Certainly with rusty components. Bypassed the ground with small screw on negative battery pole. One grd wire went to the back of transformer, just behind the reflector and another to the front screw mount near the base of light socket. Cleaned and adjusted points and now have a working horn and light.
