Didn't know Al Bloom passed. Few people know, that in his youth he also raced motorcycles at the old Santa Fe Speedway, west of Chicago. It was comical how he'd always try to beat you down at swaps. At one swap, I had a mess of parts laid out on the grass that I wanted to get rid of. Put everything for a buck each. Some of the stuff was worth much more, but we call get in those "just get rid of stuff " moods. He picked out a Krate chain guard. It would have been a deal at 5, but I never liked them things, so on the grass for a buck it went. With it in his mitt, he came up to me saying, "Would you go 50 cents for this?" I replied, "Sure Al. If that's all you can afford. . . you can have it for free." He thanked me and walked away happy, my sarcasm never registering. RIP, Al.
