    Are parts original?

Ha, “All Things Schwinn”, This Copper ‘65 bike in question is just a beginner’s Sting-ray. A no frills (far less chrome) version, compared to the big boys Sting-ray. The ‘65 Stingray and Junior share the same frame and chain guard. Just a different screen on the guard. You are able to compare...

    1965 Sky Blue J-38 Survivor

Mr. Dave Woodruff, It’s been a couple decades since we spoke. Great to see you here on the CABE and Thank You for that gracious compliment. You still have your bike collection? I’m still hanging in there, but myself has heavy patina. 😆 Chris.

    Blue band hub questions

The Blue Band 2 speed Overdrive rear hub was a new feature offered on the 1965 Stingray. The last half of 1964 and beyond Stingrays came with a 28 spoke S-2.

    February '64 Coppertone find

Mootree, I‘m curious what date is stamped into the inside bottom of the fork leg?

    February '64 Coppertone find

I’ve never seen that particular rear hub on a early Stingray. This B4 represents about 10 months of the Sting-ray existence. You should be able to dial-in this Radiant Coppertone Standard with a few correct parts.

    February '64 Coppertone find

WOW, so you have a 28 spoke S-2 on front and rear? Yes, that rear hub is wrong also. The Bendix brake arm and strap are correct. Someone has been doing some crazy modifications on this bike.

    February '64 Coppertone find

Congratulations. Nice find, great color. It shows as a J-38 (standard) that someone added aftermarket fenders, chain ring and grips. For a February 1964 it should have the following components. 36 spoke S-2 Non crimp seat strut. Small stimsonite reflector with it’s mounting strap. It has the...

    Flamboyant Lime, timeless color.

1964 MODELS NOW ON DISPLAY The Big Brother to the above 1964 Lime Stingray. Here are some fresh photos of a couple of Flamboyant Lime 1964 Survivor Schwinn’s. The Big Brother is a recent acquisition in the Sprint featured lightweight. This F4 Varsity “glows” just like it’s little brother the...

    Schwinn “Shop Coat”

Here is the frontal view, complete with stains and showing it belonged to Ken in a size 42.

    Schwinn “Shop Coat”

Rare coat for sure. It’s been hanging in my office for years behind a ‘65 Violet J-38.

    Violet Grips

Schwinn handlebar grips. The old style Chubby and the New Slim Line. The slim line was first offered in the ‘67 model year as noted in the Schwinn Reporter below. A couple examples of the last year (1966) Glitter Chubby grips on Schwinn bikes.

    1964 Flamboyant Lime Varsity

As it should have from the 1965 Schwinn parts catalog information and consumer catalog offerings. After all, your Nov. 13, 1964 photos show it‘s being fitted with several 1965 components for the upcoming year. My bike is a mid ‘64 build with a ‘63 crank and 1964 components throughout except the...

    1964 Flamboyant Lime Varsity

1964 Varsity “Due Diligence” on the Sprocket, Rear. It pays to do the ^^^^ before you take someone’s advice to look for the “correct” Sprint branded Atom with splines. There are MANY members on this fantastic CABE site with great knowledge, but not one person has seen every ‘64 Varsity build...

    1964 Flamboyant Lime Varsity

Vintage cartoon from the Schwinn Reporter. One of the famous Glenn “Bernhardt” cartoons. Also, some interesting information from the September 1965 SR on changes made for performance and safety. 1) Chain guide arm. 2) Cable slippage on Sprint front derailleur that involves the “cable anchor...

    1964 Flamboyant Lime Varsity

Hi bikerbluz, Thank you for the compliments! I like details, so clear close-up photos are very important. Glad you like it. Sometimes when I have encountered a stuck stem I wack the top of the bolt with a 2x4 that may loosen that stuck wedge. Good luck, Chris.
