Accessories for 1964 JC Penney Foremost

Vetteman: As you can sort out from the earlier posts, your bike was manufactured by Murray and has the same frame as a Sears Spaceliner. The rear racks that Spaceliners (and the earlier Flightliners) had were, as Mr. Gorman said, not very useful. That is largely because of the mounting bars that...

    Smoking and Cycling?

I used to play in old man's pickup soccer games. Many countries were represented. Some Greeks, Armenians, and Frenchmen would have a cigarette at halftime. I don't think that we had any Argentinians, but apparently Lionel Messi has been known to have a smoke.

Would like more info on this cranbrook?

Bluffton: Here is what you should know: Huffy Cranbrook is a low-price cruiser sold in discount stores It is not expected to stand up well to hard use, but it is perfectly ridable You can customize it any way you want with no guilt regarding destroying a potential museum piece Parts from...

did any other bikes come with a welded on kickstand besides Schwinn?

Some Huffys have integral kickstands. Example below is a Huffy Tundra MTB from 1980's or 1990's. Unlike the Schwinn-type kickstand, which has an internal coil spring, this one has a cylindrical piece of spring steel that wraps around the outside of the piece that is welded to the frame.

Look like gargoyles on a Gothic cathedral.

    Bicycle shop stickers

Westwood Cycle, Westwood, New Jersey. Sticker on a 1974 "chestnut" colored Schwinn Suburban. Still in business and selling bikes like hotcakes during the pandemic!

A Run on Sanitizer, Face Masks, Toilet Paper, and Now Bicycles? Look at what I saw today!

I saw that my neighbor had a new MTB and asked him about it. He was at the LBS when he saw this copper-colored, full-suspension Scott bike and had to have it. Two other fellas were looking at it, but he brought it home for a cool $3K. Shopkeeper said that bikes are flying out the door. For me...

    Funeral Parlor Find

Somehow, I feel that we missed the chance for a Stephen King type book and movie. Remember "Christine?" Perhaps with the ghost of Darla Rae riding a flaming bike down Hoosier Street at midnight ripping the driver side doors off parked cars.

    Foil for rust?

Another option is bronze wool. It is softer than steel wool so it doesn't scratch the chrome. It is much more expensive than aluminum foil, but I think it knocks the rust off a bit quicker. Also, using chrome polish in lieu of water with either aluminum foil or bronze wool may leave behind some...

Any JC Higgins experts out there?

Chad: Nice! According to the Sears catalog that's a 1960 "Equipped Flightliner." That is the original saddle and looks to be in nice shape. I have the brother of your bike (see pic below). You can see what the chainguard looks like. The original saddle to mine is in pieces in a box. I painted...

    JC Higgins Mainliner?

The 1965 Sears catalog cut in post #9 shows a bike that matches except for the rear rack. While the picture isn't very clear, the tank, frame, and chain guard look like matches. Also, the text mentions chrome fenders, like Goingon12's bike. While Sears had dropped the "J.C.Higgins" branding...

    JC Higgins Mainliner?

Nice bike! I went to the trusty Sears catalog cuts published by James Hurd & T.A. Gordon. The only tank that looks like the one on the subject bike is in the 1965 catalog on the "Fully-equipped Midweight with lots of chrome." The picture is small and of poor quality, but the tank seems to...

    Sears spaceliner?

Notagamerguy: Nice! I'm jealous of the saddle. I have the same saddle from my 1960 Flightliner, but it all fell apart. It looks like the chrome evaporated from your tail light. I don't how that happens, but it often occurs with vacuum-metallized plastic. Easily spiffed up by disassembling, fine...

    Correct Pedal Size

Aieeejo: Here's a picture that shows what the 1/16" difference looks like between 9/16" diameter pedals and a 1/2" diameter pedals. There are probably some other, exotic sizes, but I've never run across any. Have fun

    Rambler bicycle question?

Archie is correct about the court case. The Wikipedia article can be found at Pope_Mfg._Co._v._Gormully. Like MrColumbia says, there is a connection. Wikipedia says that Thomas B. Jeffery Company was an auto manufacturer from 1902 until 1916 and manufactured Rambler and Jeffery brand cars. The...
