    Reflective Tape Ugh!

“listen to the boys “ says Schwinnbikebob, and that’s what I did. Armed with a heat gun, plastic putty knife, and Goo Gone, I was able to remove all of the reflective tape, while leaving the underlying finish intact. Thank you very much to those who responded with advice, it was very helpful to...

    Reflective Tape Ugh!

I guess I will try Goo gone first I guess, than the boiling water. I am a little afraid of the heat gun damaging the paint, but will go that route if all else fails. Local hardware store has Goo gone.

    Reflective Tape Ugh!

I just came by this Roadmaster in very nice condition. Unfortunately, someone has applied reflective tape many years ago on the tank and fenders. I have read some threads on removing such tape, such as a hair dryer/heat gun, and chemical removers such as for decals. I was wondering if anyone has...

    Help with my rusty rims!

Thanks for the pictures Tom. Really nice bike, I will never get mine to look like that! That is really very well preserved. I can see how parts guy thought it was restored, you really have to look close.

    Help with my rusty rims!

Well, I am happy to hear that the wax is effective, because that is what I am using on the bike after cleaning the surface rust. Actually, the dark areas of the rim wax up quite nicely once they are smoothed and burnished. I have been using "Quick Glo", and it works really well. If the wax is...

    Help with my rusty rims!

That was my first choice. But how do I protect the black areas from re-rusting? I am waxing the rest of the bike with carnuba to protect the metal, but I don't think it's sufficient to protect the rims? Also, this bike will not be a daily rider, and will be kept in a dry and controlled...

    Help with my rusty rims!

OK, here it is. The other side of the tank has been house-painted, and the original paint and logo destroyed. I have original chain guard (pretty good paint), and a torpedo fender light (not original). A 1948 Deluxe model missing truss rods.

    Help with my rusty rims!

Thanks guys. I guess they are beyond help. I will see if someone on here might be selling replacements. Thanks again!

    Help with my rusty rims!

Hello all: Being a newbie and needing direction, this website has been a big help to me. I am in the process of cleaning up my '48 Monark, and it's going great. I found the thread "patina vs. rust" particularly helpful. I am using the WD40/Steel wool/wax method, and have retained and preserved...

    '40's Monark Special Deluxe

Thanks Jay, that's what I am thinking. I am thrown by the fact that the color scheme on the chain guard matches the rest of the bike. That might be a common occurrence though, when parts are swapped out over the years. I don't have the experience to make the call. I appreciate the comments and...

    '40's Monark Special Deluxe

The front forks suggest that this is a 1948 "Deluxe" that is missing the truss rods. However, my chain guard reads "Super Deluxe". Perhaps the chain guard was from another bike, although the color scheme matches. It is a mystery to me so far.

    '40's Monark Special Deluxe

As a follow up: Is it possible that this is the model I have? This is a 1948.
