New Departure hub repair

Finally riding a big boys bike
Hi There, Anyone out there know how to repair/rebuild a 1927 New Departure rear hub? It has a faded stamp that reads A1?? When I apply the brakes the crank spins 1/2 to 3/4 way before stopping. Any help is appreciated, Mike

There were also oversize brake assemblies available, item A-8 here:

You could probably make your own sleeve without too much difficulty. Measure the inside of your braking surface and the outside of the three tiny brake shoes at full expansion. There is probably too much wear for a a modern bearing repair sleeve to do much good but it could be worth a try and it might pop right in. Finding a NOS sleeve or oversize brake unit will be harder- keep checking here, eBay and swap meets. The problem is someone has to have the parts, recognize what they are, and know how to advertise them. At it's best the Model A is not much of a brake. Your feet do a much better job.
