I love the e-bike evolution. Keep them on the pavement I say. I am currently looking into a rear-hub based conversion to run on an old ballooner/tanker outfitted with a detachable trailer so I can stop driving to the store for food. Unfortunately over time, the lure of the easy button in American culture increases our own evolution towards fatter and fatter, less healthy human beings sitting on platform seats while twisting or pushing throttle buttons. We are very predictable....human beings. This alarming trend of decline in our health has already siphoned and directed billions of dollars of scarce resources into the medical BUSINESS that then "treats" the unintended negative health consequences with wallet-stripping dangerous prescription drugs and medical procedures. As you walk out the doctors office he tells you "lose some weight and eat better"....yea right.....:( A bit over the top maybe but its' true!
Every single time an e-bike passes me when on the road, they ALWAYS look over their shoulder with a look of disdain and superiority as they cut back in front of me. We're doomed. :p

It's an older blogger post but much still applies.

OK, back to the up and coming e-bike revolution. @mike j has presented some really good looking conversions. Very creative...

I rode one once. It was fast and way too awesome. Unless you really need one to keep riding (like for instance a knee replacement warranted getting one) i would suggest never ever riding one. You might get hooked and never go back to pedaling.

That kinda happened once I rode a whizzer; I don't want a full motorcycle but I see so many cheap 2 stroke kits and think it's overly done & funny people want $500+ for a cheap chain store bike & $70+ kit. I suppose putting a 110cc pit bike motor on a bike has it's fad & craziness like ebikes too but I still see my pedals in the future ;)

All electric. The futuristic electric motorcycle is a Johammer, made in Germany.
The vintage Schwinn factory commuter is very cool!

Mike has encouraged or convinced me to go with the Hilltopper Sprinter for my wife who needs some pedal assist (lung cancer).
Have spoken to the company a few times about the front wheel conversion on a vintage bike and was assured our 2.125" tires will fit the kit's wheel

Should be getting it in a couple of weeks.

I like the conversions (preferably the old schwinns), and they can make fun trail bikes too. It's kinda stealth. I've had this one for about a year and its great. Mid-motor are the way to go.
