My elderly neighbor gave me a neglected Schwinn Speedster that I got back up and running.

Those Camelback frame Speedsters were a popular model back in the day. Did you have to buy a new shifter and cable for it? The cable routing is a bit off from factory and it looks like you might have enough length to run it as it was from the factory.
