While stopping for coffee at our local neighborhood cafe, my wife goes in to order while, as typical, I wait outside with our bikes. A young family of three + a puppy arrive while the wife and young child go in to order. The husband and I strike up a conversation about their Australian Shepherd dog, since we had lost Aussie not too long ago. The wives and little man return and we all started chitchatting about our neighborhood. The husband looks over and notices our bikes. “Is that new artwork?” he asked. “Are those real?” We had a laugh and I told him the bikes are ours, and I told him more about the bikes. He told us that he has never seen a stand like that.

Anyway, while we talked more about the bikes, their 4 year old started to ring the old bells and turn the pedals on the bikes, because you can with these drop stands while parked. I stood close to make sure the bikes do not accidentally tip over onto him. I had fun watching the young boy tinker with the moving parts of the bike seeing the wheels spin while he turns the pedals by hand.

Passionate about vintage rides, just wanted to share how a remark about these old bikes are looked upon as art, which is so cool here. At the same time brings me joy to see a young child play with something like these old bikes from the 30s. Put a smile on my face every time.

'39 Colson DBR out in the 'hood, checking the tide and listening for odd noises from this ride. First real spin, and I know that I have to true the rims better, replace the missing brake arm strap, and add some more air to the new tires. Rides good otherwise 👌.
And tighten the chain...... 😀
