Look Ma, No Hands!
I'm pretty deep into a 1953 Schwinn Panther BMX Klunker build and I'm ordering the last of the parts that I need. I know this frame uses a 13/16" seat post, but I'm not clear on the seat post clamp size. Does anybody know offhand? I know 1" is likely too big, but I was hoping there is another option besides the standard AS seat post clamp. Thanks in advance for your help!

You really don't have much of a choice. The seat mask is 25.07mm +- so a 1" clamp is what you need. Nothing smaller that I know of other than maybe something used on Juvenile bike.

I'm in the exact same situation right now. Did you solve this riddle? I'm looking at 25.4mm/1" clamps. I'd hate to waste more money on trial and error, and I'm not a fan of shims. What's the solution?

Went with an AS clamp. I don’t see a good alternative other than shims. Kind of a bummer. Didn’t turn out too bad though. Can’t wait to lace up my gold Ukai hoops for this. Just can’t settle on a drivetrain. Do I want single speed, the Bendix Yellow Band kickback, or maybe a Nexus 8c IGH? So many options….current tires and wheels are a placeholder. Probably going with Maxxis Holy Rollers.

I love it. What a beauty! I went with the Nexus 8, and I would recommend it. I stick with the single speed or 3 speeds on my cruisers. But the 8 speed is a must on the Klunker. I also went with a Sturmey Archer drum brake for the front. I'm a freak for original paint, but your frame looks amazing. Nice work. Here's my '51 Spitfire. I gotta get a black seat post clamp, for aesthetics.

The seat mast tubing is 1" and there are quite a few different clamps on the market. Everything from a $5.00 chinaclamp to a nice alloy anodized piece.
A 1 inch clamp for 1 inch tubing.

You seem confident, and you gave me a correct answer once before. I'm going to trust you. Thank you. I'm going with that Tange, black with silver stripes.

How do you like the roller brake? I was considering the 8c (coaster)

I didn’t have an option of original paint. The frame came to me in red primer so I had it powder coated. It really is stunning, and my powder coater is top notch. That being said, my ‘83 sidewinder is going to be my first home paint project. Fingers crossed.
