I live for the CABE
Hi All,
@Goldenindian recently put up this article about the Vitalic tires used on the first contract Columbia 'Military Model' bicycles.
On 29th October 1917 the Westfield Manufacturing Co. was advised that it had been officially awarded the first contract for10,000 'Military Model' bicycles. Production work was already under way, presumably on a verbal contract. Verbal contracts were common at this point to get the work moving in view of the urgency of the war, but caused a lot of problems later when the war ended suddenly in 1918.
The entire contract was to be cleared in ninety days, so this article was written during the production run.
Best Regards,
Adrian
