It is with great agony and reservation that I have decided to sell my beloved 1919 Iver Johnson Boys Midget. I don't think I have to tell many people how rare a pre-1920 boys juvenile bicycle is. I really love this bicycle, but I don't have the expertise to restore it or re-assemble it. I would...
All, there's been a slight change. I said I didn't want to break this up, but I was contacted by the person who sold me the rat trap pedals and he wanted to buy them back. He offered a set of rubber diamond blocks that are just like what was on the bike when I got it, as a part of the deal. I...
I've never assembled any bicycle in my life, much less a 100 year old bike. I have cleaned up the frame (gently). I'd have to have someone assemble it for me (that was the game plan all along).
I don't know much about this rim. I bought it as a part of what was supposed to be matching 28H rims, but obviously, that's not what I received. The hub has no markings as far as I can see. Anyway, I don't really know the value, so I'll try $135 shipped and then go from there. Please see the...
$80 shipped.
Please see in the pictures that the wrapper is tattered and wrinkled (you would be to if you were over 70 years old! :), but is still legible and strong enough to hold the pedals. Also note that someone wrote "Juvenile" on them at some point.
@ivrjhnsn - what's the story with the serial #? 5 digits in 1932? Was there a different series of numbers started along the way? Would have expect this bike to be in the late 400k's to early 500k's right?
Now you've seen a set. :D
I am only a novelist and I have a matching pair of 20 inch rims, along with 2 odd balls (one 24 hole and one 28 hole). If I, as a one bicycle collector, have four 20" rims, I'm positive there are a lot more out there. These were painted silver and I started removing the...
I wonder if he/they could repair the original from the bike. It broke in 2 pieces and it's a little warped. Other than that, it's in perfect condition. :D
I'll post a picture of it. I'd love to have it on the bike. It's for display only anyway. The more original it is, the better.
I was lucky with the single tubes. I have set of NOS Chain treads I was gong to use, but then I got super lucky and found a set of Fisks, which came on it originally.
Somebody has a set of rims - SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE is holding out!!
I do have a lead on one rim to go with a single I have. Was...
All of my searches have simply come up empty. Multiple automatic searches on ebay never result in anything (except 26" and 28").
All I need is a set of 20" wheels for this little 1919 IJ Boys Scout Midget and it will be ready to put back together. In the last year, I really got lucky on a seat...
I saw this 1890's Lovell Diamond on ebay this morning and coudn't help but thinking this thing needs to be on display somewhere. I know @ivrjhnsn has a museum for IJ's up in Fitchburgh, MA where the IJ factory is.
I'd love to do a crowd fund and see this bike go in the museum. I'm willing to...
I am super pumped today. I have wanted a set of Fisk 20" single tube tires for my little Boy Scout Midget forever. The only set of ANY brand 20" single tube tires I ever found were the U.S. Rubber Co Giant Chain Tread ones. They are nice tires and are NOS - but since the bike was originally...
Man, that is totally awesome. You just don't know how lucky you are to have a real example, as well as a color photograph to use as an example. I've searched the web and catalogs trying to find a picture of this IJ Boy Scout Midget to use as a guide - I've never found anything but the B&W photo...
All - I wanted to update this thread and tell everyone that I think I've found my seat. It is awesome. I feel like a kid on Christmas day (the best Christmas ever!). I will post some pictures later. It appears to be NOS but still has a couple of issues. I was hesitant on most seats posted here...
Here's another adult example. Just looking at these seats, it seems like the way they built them changed somewhere in the late teens or early 20s. It seems like the older ones were built using a piece of plywood and 2 pieces of leather. The leather was sewn together around the plywood and the...
I think that the seat I'm looking for would have a side profile similar to one of these adult seats. Notice in the picture I included from the IJ catalog that the seat looks much thinner than the seats I currently have and everyone is offering. Also, notice that the seat does not look to be...
