Trying to figure out what I've got - any assistance/opinions appreciated.
I cannot say I have actually straightened a bent fork, but I'd done LOTS of metal straightening on autos. And I almost always prefer to use some heat. Any bending of metal will induce localized work hardening. (straighten a paper clip, then try to reform it to the perfect image of a paper clip...- Alan Brase

I could use help with a second Schwinn Superior I found
Things like this and EVERY single bolt on my rusty VW buses make me think I should invest in an induction spot heater. Surely don't want to put a torch ANYWHERE near that baby. But a tiny bit of heat would probably help. Anybody else bought such a heater or researched it?- Alan Brase

Waiting to learn more! I would agree with everything you said so far. But B serial means 1939, I think. FWIW, my gut feeling is that these are much rarer than Paramounts. Crazy how big a dollar was back then. I remember looking at the 1940 catalog and seeing frame prices. $30 for a Paramount and $20 for a Superior. 1981 0r 1982 Schwinn Superior Gran Sport Orange
It may seem like a baby Paramount or "spawn of Paramount", what with the fancy lugs and 531 tubes. But with GranSport group and built to a price, it does not have a lot of collector value, I fear. Just use it and enjoy. It's a pretty bike in that color.- Alan Brase

Repaints
My guess would be that failing spokes will fail progressively. Not catastrophically. Not all at the same time. So you can put in a few replacements, and if failure seems ongoing, then do the whole wheel. I think you will be fine.- Alan Brase

I also weighed my 1973 Paramount P13. It's a 25 inch frame, so a bit heavier than some: 25.0 lb I've substituted 700C rims and tires, and Silca frame pump, so it may have gained a lb or so. It may have been advertised at 23lb from new?- Alan Brase

Crazy how big a dollar was back then. I remember looking at the 1940 catalog and seeing frame prices. $30 for a Paramount and $20 for a Superior. Meant this as reply to a quote re the paint being a brand new 1950 thing: Not so sure about that. That red/burgundy paint looks EXACTLY like the paint on my 1946 Continental. Indeed, it does look 2 stage. I often felt the blue Continentals from 1946-7 looked 2 stage as well. So, not disputing...- Alan Brase

Pretty sure that is taken during Carrera Panamerica race. From the Olds in the foreground I'd guess 1952-3? Early 1950's LINCOLNS did very well, allegedly because of superior handling. first US cars to have ball joints. Wonderful picture!- Alan Brase

1981 0r 1982 Schwinn Superior Gran Sport Orange
It may seem like a baby Paramount or "spawn of Paramount", what with the fancy lugs and 531 tubes. But with GranSport group and built to a price, it does not have a lot of collector value, I fear. Just use it and enjoy. It's a pretty bike in that color.- Alan Brase

I'm still learning, but my New World (J99657) is similar time period, about a year later, but my New world had a big badge on it, so possible BFG also. Does the half inch pitch chainwheel with the extra small holes come from a narrow time period, in other words, does that help date it?- Alan Brase

Repaints
My guess would be that failing spokes will fail progressively. Not catastrophically. Not all at the same time. So you can put in a few replacements, and if failure seems ongoing, then do the whole wheel. I think you will be fine.- Alan Brase

My 1940 Superior came with a saddle exactly like that, except with the "Superior" logo. Nice to have it, but what a heavy pig! I also weighed my 1973 Paramount P13. It's a 25 inch frame, so a bit heavier than some: 25.0 lb I've substituted 700C rims and tires, and Silca frame pump, so it may have gained a lb or so. It may have been advertised at 23lb from new?- Alan Brase

So easy to pick the New World frame off the wall. It's almost exactly like the OP, Miq's. even down to the paint. Just the frame, fork, headset seat post. 1945ish Wartime blackout model, original with 1 piece crank 1" skip tooth, and New Departure hubs. 10.2 lb. Seems like a careful build up...- Alan Brase
