Looking for a nice straight men’s prewar Schwinn truss fork. Nice paint only matters if the color scheme is double green (light and dark green) other than that crap paint is fine!
Schwinn cruiser 5, no cables or chain. But atom drum brake and heavy duty wheels are all complete. Will be at the show. Most likely walking around looking for a trade.
You’ll most likely have to flip that chain ring around so the concave side is facing out. Little thing I learned with my 66 violet collegiate 5 speed… it’s flipped for chain alignment purposes. Doesn’t look as pretty but I ain’t gunna argue with what the old girl wants 😂
As soon as I saw the title of this thread I had to click on it because I knew Lobsterboy would be here to muddy up the thread irritating people. Classic!
This bike deserved to be saved… the rest of it was in such good shape despite the battery acid damage on the frame and tank.. most probably would’ve parted this out but not this wacko… got her fixed up and patina matched.
Before paint repair job
And after!
I completely understand what your saying but I built the bike the way I wanted to. Based off of past builds and other drivetrains I’ve experienced, I selected this setup. It actually rides phenomenal and cruises way better than stingrays I’ve had. Not everything has to turn into an information...
I’ve had longer ones on this frame style and it’s just a nuisance to pedal. This one is way more tolerable. I’m 6’1” so any little extra room on a bike this size is needed. Especially since this style of sissy bar has limited height adjustment.
The crank is one from a 24” Schwinn of the same year. Tad longer than the small crank but not as long as the 26” cranks. And the hub choice is purely for uniqueness and cool factor.
So!! This house blue 1950 Schwinn I scored ar a swap meet. I bought it originally because the OG paint underneath is green and ivory two tone. I have an original paint 55 Schwinn PIG bike that never had a fork when I got it. So after stripping the house paint it unveiled the nice OG painted fork...
1946 Schwinn autocycle, was unluckily struck by the exploding battery bandit…the tank paint is severely damaged as well.. acid just zapped it right off.
SO! not totally done but it rides! Still need to get the cable hooked up for the aviation 2 speed. And the chain guard is painted but it’s in terrible shape.. still in the market for a guard that is repairable or in good shape.. also need to lay down the fork pinstripes still.
This pic of this Jaguar was the last time this bike was seen all together… sold it and then had to watch it get parted out locally…was sad for such a pretty bike.
Honestly have seen way more of these than I expected to see once I learned about the one year only fact. In 10 years I’ve had to have seen at least 20-30 different ones. Several being for sale locally!
It is a BFG schwinn, has the headbadge to match. I call it a deluxe hornet due to having the springer fork. Plus it’s easier to understand than saying it’s similar to the catalog model “DB97XE.” But due to the two tone guard, springer and small differences that don’t exactly match the catalog...
Insanely crusty Montgomery wards Hawthorne, took me weeks to get what was there apart… seat pan was hanging together for dear life..BUT!! I made it ride! Totally worth it haha
This is the only thing I have to go on as of right now.. but I am looking for any information in regards to the 1898 Monarch “The Grant” bicycle. Literature or an actual bike would be great. I’d love to own one if possible. Thanks!
I’d hit that with some oven cleaner and see if you can unveil the original paint scheme! Even if it’s in crap shape it would be cool to see if that truly is red and black two tone!
Is that black original paint under the red?? If so a 20” black and red paint scheme on a 20” ballooner would be super cool! And to see an original example of it!
