  I didn’t used vice-grips...but if you do... Vice grips on the wrench tool only! Now you have more leverage. But apply it in short amounts of pressure. You don't want to disfigure the slots on the nut. It may take time...use lube oil. Eventually it will loosen. Good Luck

  Wallymarts are inexpensive but will not last for long. About the only good thing is that I can return them with no hassle. I have had good luck with GoodYear Tube’s.

  After close to 100 years without being touch by a human. This gal was not going to make it easy for me. A couple of drops of lube oil and patience. Using an old bike wrench which fitted into the two slots and slight force I managed to loosen the nut so that I was then able to remove it by hand.

One of the things that stands out for me are the rivet fender braces which was used on Schwinns. As opposed to the nut and screw fender brace mounts. Could these fenders/braces also have been aftermarket items from that time?

If not mistaken, I recall it was in the 80s. This WF repo was my first purchase when I got the bug for old balloon bikes. There were negative comments about this bike, but I didn't care. It was a fun bike for me.

Sold Diamond chain $32

If the chain includes the Master Link...can I add more of the same chain so that it will fit my bike. I have some of this style of chain, but not enough. I have never done this before but I'm thinking it might be possible. If my question is out of topic, sorry... please delete it.

I believe both of you explained it very well. I've seen the word, “Opalescent” in Schwinn ads to describe a specific color scheme. I just don't have the specific ad on hand right now.

I didn’t used vice-grips...but if you do... Vice grips on the wrench tool only! Now you have more leverage. But apply it in short amounts of pressure. You don't want to disfigure the slots on the nut. It may take time...use lube oil. Eventually it will loosen. Good Luck

I believe the Red phantom came in two "types" of reds. My 1955 Red phantom is a shimmering color. It is faded but I can tell it was not a solid red. Same with the '54 Western Flyer Deluxe X-53. The red is mettalic or opalescent red. On the other hand, I have a '52 Green Phantom and the hue is...

What's up with bicycle tubes? Eventually, they all seem to go flat!

I had a pair of pre-war red tires from Coker. Several years later they disintegrated. I've also had a pair from Memory Lane. They are still working fine. Both were made overseas.

What's up with bicycle tubes? Eventually, they all seem to go flat!

Wallymarts are inexpensive but will not last for long. About the only good thing is that I can return them with no hassle. I have had good luck with GoodYear Tube’s.

I got the idea at the local Market Square where a guy set up a small table and would carve name initials on brass rings in no time.

After close to 100 years without being touch by a human. This gal was not going to make it easy for me. A couple of drops of lube oil and patience. Using an old bike wrench which fitted into the two slots and slight force I managed to loosen the nut so that I was then able to remove it by hand.
