I have a customer who is restoring a early 50's wf super like he owned as a kid. So far what I know he needs is, the turn signal switch, a NICE set of hoops or a similar wheel set, and maybe a chain guard.
Whatcha got?
Thanks
Dave
So I bought this set of wheels on ebay figuring I would lace them into some "aircooled" hubs I have and put them on my 36 Elgin.
Today the wheels showed up and, I have NEVER seen old steel wheels, or even newer steel wheels with NO rust what ever on the inside. Plus when you take into...
So I have been toying with the idea of building a black panther bike. Nothing to do with the film, it just seems like something Schwinn should have done.
What I'm thinking is a black and black candy paint job. Black where the "normal" bike would be black and candy over what would normally be...
For your tank.
I had been looking for some of these for quite some time, but all I could find were vinyl, which IMO just don't cut it. So I made my own.
$10. a pair plus shipping.
If for any reason there is a problem with one of them, I will send a replacement for free.
I can coat them either...
I got this many years back and started working on fixing it up. It had a weird switch, kind of a rod that went down through the bezel and actuated a disconnect that kept the battery from contacting the base of the bulb. The switch wasn't working and now I have missplaced the parts over the...
Manufactor unknown, year unknown. In great shape.
$15 plus the ride
Will trade for smaller chain tensioner screws for 30's Elgin. They are smaller than the screws used by Schwinn.
I got screwed, so trade is off. ;)
for a elgin.
I had some extras and found out the Schwinn screws are larger than the one I need for my Elgin.
The one on the right is the Schwinn screw, the one I need the match to is on the left.
TIA
It's one of the tanks you see being sold on ebay and on here. Took some grinding with the old dremmel, and yes, I know it's not the correct tank, but it does dress it up a bit.
A set of motobike decals are on the way, and I will probably touch up the paint one more time before the decals go on...
A woman came into the shop today asking about any local collectors for stingrays. I told her about the cabe.
I didn't see the bike but here is her discription. Family bike since new, 1965 with springer, 2 speed kickback ( I would assume a blue band but she didn't know for sure), fenders...
Surfing around on here tonight I found that the tire on the 36 schwinn I'm parting out is in demand on here. I'm not such a stickler that I have to have the correct tires on my bikes, so I figured I would put this up for sale. BUT I really don't know what a fair and reasonable price would be...
Somehow I ended up with two of these. One has a scratch, this one is clean. These are seen on Schwinn, Huffman, and, I believe Colson and maybe others. If you do a search, many Ludwig badged bikes pop up.
$35. plus the ride.
2 3/8 center to center
It seems I have seen several different tanks on these. I'm not particular as to which tank as long as it's correct. It will more than likely be painted since it doesn't look like I will be able to save the original paint on the bike it's going on. I'm not a huge fan of the tanks with the vents...
Digging around in my stuff today and came across these cranks and chain ring. I can't remember where I got them or what they came off of, but I think they may be old Schwinn cranks. They are stamped with a 26 and a 27 and an s.
They are in amazing shape.
Any idea on value...
for a Schwinn Corvette with mount for front brake.
Also red with same.
Or.
1955 and 1954 S/A 3 speed coaster brake hubs. Would trade 54 alloy S/A non coaster hub for 54 coaster hub. Would trade chrome Schwinn springer (later 60's)? For blue middle weight early 50's fork with brake mount...
Marked M560.
Anyone have any idea what these may have come off of?
The plating is in really nice shape and if I can't come up with a better set, they may end up on my 36 C mod.
If can figure out what they were originally on, then maybe I could trade them to somebody for a equally nice set for...
kickstand? Made in Indiana.
This came off of the 36 Model C I just picked up. The drop stand is going back on so this came off. I have quite a few kickstand kicking around, but this is the first one like this I have seen.
I is in great shape, anyone seen one of these before?
Edit...
Several years back I got my hands on several boxes of NOS motobecane scooter parts. Everything from seats to fenders and stays to electronics and, well, just a lot of stuff. Including specialty tools. Since I know nothing about these things, I have just been sitting on it all, but I know someone...
In fair to good condition for a 1968 sprite 5 speed. I had after market stem and bars on it and today I put on the correct stem, only to find out the bars are a smaller diameter. :(
Seems after working in bike shops for almost 40 years, I should have remembered that...
Guess I'm getting...
Cleaned off 3 or 4 layers of paint, then gave it a overnight OX bath. Scrubbed it with a brass brissel brush, then a steel brush then wiped it down and put it back together. This came off of the 36 or 37 I just got last weekend.
A lot of chrome loss over the years, but I'm happy with...
Of course I don't know if the paint was that dark back in the 30's when it was sprayed, but it looks like the motobike I just got is the dark red I have seen on so many old schwinn bikes. I also have one of the first year locking truss rod forks and it has the same dark red paint as well. I'm...
Rivets need to be tightened up ( don't they all?) Very small crack at the top on one side. This came off of a 1936 26 inch Schwinn.
The clip is NOT for sale, but the rest of the bike will be.
Well, most of it at any rate.
Asking $125. + shipping
As far as trades, whatcha got?
I need pre war...
Picking this up tomorrow.
I don't know how much can be told from the pics but best guess.
I'm thinking 30's but I don't own any pre
war Schwinn's other than a woman's that I was told was a 35 or 36, and it has the same guard.
So I just ordered this and paid for it, so I guess I will see what happens.
125cc 4 stroke engine with 3 speed with reverse trans for under $30.00 shipped
If this is for real, I guess I know the next bike I'll be building...
So some time ago I bought one of those repop hanging tanks for my Elgin. I wasn't sure how it would fit, but I thought I might be able to fudge it in there. Yesterday I finally decided to see how it would fit. Not too bad. The front isn't shaped quite right, but it would work with some...
does this look like someone stuck a marrow brake arm on a bendix hub.
I sure have a lot to learn, but this doesn't look like MY marrow hub.

ready to RIDE!!
Yeah
No hater's, I KNOW it's not all correct. But it's rideable!!!
Soon as the sun goes down, I get to check out my home made light system. :)
oops, in my excitement I forgot the pics.
a later Elgin headbadge.
I just bought this VERY nice earlyish Elgin badge only to find out it's too small. Bummer since it matches the color on my Elgin very well...
But someone had already replaced the original headbadge and drilled holes, so I do NOT want 3 sets of holes in my frame. SO...
Only to find out the head badge I just bought is the wrong one.
When I bought this bike, it was sporting a Schwinn Olympic head badge. I suspected it WASN'T a Schwinn, but for $50. I wasn't going to argue. Bought the braced bars and stem on here. Laced up some nice drop center hoops, one to a...
So I've found a local sheet metal worker who is open to making repop hanging tanks. I'm going to have him make one for my 34 Elgin motorbike. I've made a cardboard template of the size and shape I need, as well as a LOT of photos of original tanks of various manufactures so he can see exactly...
First some theory.
I'm sure most people on here have seen a radial laced wheel. And maybe a 1 or 2 cross pattern.
Well, the fewer crosses used in a wheel, the shorter the spokes used. The shorter the spoke, the lighter the wheel will end up being. The lighter the wheel, the less energy it takes...
So far what I have is.
A boy get's a bike for xmas or his birthday in 1934 or so when he's 11. The bike has adventures and miss adventures while he's growing up. The boy give's the bike a pet name and his great grandfather (a blacksmith from the old day's) makes him a special head badge with...
