I bought back my old 59 fire arrow and the guy that had it too it all apart and lost the entire setup for both lights. I need the works. Housings, lids, guts, lenses, trim rings and hardware. It's going to be a needle in haystack but let me know if you have what I need.
What's crazy is to at least get it to roll I put an old skiptooth morrow 26 wheel with a 2.125 tire and it clears. I've got a matching front. If I can get the adjusters loose I can at least get it rideable. One of the adjusters is broken clean off though.
From a little research I've managed to come up with a single ad from 1915 that shows a bike with the same chainring as mine but what else is original? Truss rods?seat? Handlebars the have a single hole drilled, front wheel is all metal? Front rim measures 25 inches. I'm excited as I never figured...
I've been gone a while. Too long really. But in the past two months I've managed to not only get my namesake 1959 fire arrow back(worse for wear and missing pieces but it's the bike that really started it all) and just picked up roughly a 1915 great Western Manufacturing Co American. Feels good...
Do not scrap #6 just yet. Pull the crankset, seat, headbadge(if it has one),fork/trussrods, and maybe the handlebars and stem depending on what they are and you've got at least $50-100 over on ratrodbikes.com.
It has a colson chain ring which I've got $25 shipped out of in the past. That's seat...
There a few things I want to see in yellow springs and being a pizza hound I will have to check that pizza joint out! Yes I had to ask Vince... trying to cut down the stable at this moment but Just wanted to make sure this wasn't some 70s junk.
I completely forgot about the fat franks coming in a 700c size. Man those just might do the trick, Ill have to keep them in mind. Still have to go nab the bike yet so I still got time to shop around.
All right here it is and please no body swoop in on this. What I'm not sure of is just how old this is? Seemingly has parts from the 70s or 80s but yet rides on 28x1.75 tires and has a truss style frame. Can anyone help me with what I'm looking at here? I just would like to know if it's really...
I do know about the 700c x37 tires. I guess I'm just going to really have to dig into the web and try and find something I really like. Just %99.9 of whats out there is really modern with the graphics on the side or just plain well modern in tread pattern. I want new tires for sure though...
Pretty sure it's an old german or similar country bike. Has the old truss frame deal going on. There is one of the new Pashley girls bikes that is a dead ringer frame wise. But yes the tires on it say 28x1.75. Has a F&S torpedo 3 speed on it. I'm not entirely sure that it isn't some 70s knock...
So I'm wondering if there are any replacement tires out there for the 28x1.75 tire size that have a classic look? I don't like modern tread designs but would like to have new tires and tubes. I don't have the bike yet but its cool and I just want to know I can get classic looking tires because I...
Hmmm..... I'm going to have to go with the Blimp with a nipple tanked Schwinn Aerocycle. Something about that tanks has always made me just wonder why.
I see a new trend. This is a great way to get people buying girls bikes instead of scraping them too. Better to create than destroy. I dig this idea a lot might have to see what I can do. I've got a 1948 CWC Roadmaster mens that was converted to a girls I might convert back to something like...
It's hard for me to understand why people still scrap bikes and other stuff like this. I thought American Pickers was a popular show? Nice bike though gramps. Just ride it and have fun with it. I love the orange.
Now that is a good looking bike! So is the maroon and tan one you scored not to long ago. Maybe this thread will help with the years a little.

So this makes me want to load up a bunch of base model womens Schwinns and hit every bike show. I think 50 bikes should do me for the year at this price. Sorry guys and gals had to post this one it made my day!

I would say for me it's an addiction. I don't post much anymore but I do troll this site, ratrodbikes, craigslist, and other sources every day lookintg for that big score. My problem is that I've got a few to many addictions. Hot rods, customs, traditional cars, classics, resto cars, muscle, sports all...
I think this would be a great idea to make section dedicated to this type of thing. I for one would like to see the CWC serial number thread made into a sticky or something likewise. So much good info there that is hard to find with a search.
I'm biased when it comes to this. I really like my 1955 Hercules Royal Prince. Only bike I've ever ridden that after that much time still functioned like new.
Hmm maybe I will try and find the CWC serial number thread again and go through it and print off what I need but in general I'm just saying that having some basic list's like these available here or that could be bought in pamphlet form would be very nice. Sometimes it's a little tricky to sort...
If you really want that wedge out of the bottom when you hammer it down drill that bottom hole out and if you have a bike compressor with a good air nozzle you could just blow it out if it needs a little persuasion. Did this once before it and works well just point it at the floor not your eye!;)
That has got to be one of the longest crank arms I've ever seen. That would be really nice for a big front small rear sprocket setup. I need to get me some!
I don't think Schwinn has it? Stong yes durable yes good quality yes details no so much. How could you leave the bottom bracket with that nasty seam or whatever it is on it? I've also seen quite a few factory Schwinn paint jobs that had the scallops? More than slightly off with haze around them...
So I've got a question that would require a lot of work and we here at the cabe would have to band together to make it work. I in particular would like to have one for the Cleveland Welding Company bicycles. But in general for new guys and the guys that have been around a while, Why don't we...
If you really want the extra gears go for a 3 speed Sturmy Archer. Easy to maintain and use and the gearing is great. First is super low(aroun 5-8mph) second is the riding gear(9-14mph) and third is a real leg exercise if pedaled hard(15-20mph) I've had one up to 31mph with in a cruiser that...
Sad to see it all go like that. Bet he is devastated. Seems like there was some good stuff there to be had. I don't know anything about his prices though. There is still a lot of scrap money there.
Besides the handle bars and stem I think you have a pretty complete original and decent paint fire arrow there. You're quite the lucky duck at $10 and it's black! The tanklights will prove to be elusive as I'm pretty sure they changed every year. If yours is a 59(im pretty sure it is) then the...
I am seriously jealous of your Packard! I would even go for a 110 sedan just to have a car with that grill! I'll have to take a pic of my 1967 Cadillac and a bike or two of mine.
Try posting this again in the middleweight section. JD56 will probably be able to help you with this. Ditch the gumwall tires! Good to see that the fender ornament is still there though. Hope this helps a little.
I had a 49 Schwinn with the same problem. I usually ride a 52-18 setup and this had a lower ratio(I like to go fast and pedal hard but slow) and should have been easier to pedal. Nope that old nag would make me rubber legged in two blocks. I put a really old Davis Deluxe Saftey tread on the rear...
Ill keep those in mind looking for some stuff with a little more curve going on. Don't know about the mm sizes fitting in with the prewar stem I have planned either.
Like the title says I'm looking for some crusty early track bike handle bars like the ones pictured. No newer road bike stuff. They don't need to be pretty or torrington/valuable/exspensive. They just need to be this general shape. Thanks pm me with anything you have that you wan't to get rid of.
Wasn't the dude with the white utility van was it? Selling oddities and novelty items? I bought an old skateboard from him. Could best be described as as a little more gone than tommy chong?
I like all the VW machinery in that photo. I've come to the conclusion that I really want a Spaceliner, A Higgins Flightliner, or a Ross if I get another tanklight. Or the seemingly hard to come by 1964 Fire Arrow. I really like middleweights! It's hard to stay away from some of the ones that...
I have a baby seat just like that! Mines not the awesome blue plaid though. That Hawthorne might be a 1940? I'm not sure and can't find the old CWC serial number thread.
