I'm still looking for an authentic "in the rough" military bike that hasn't been discovered out there. This one caught my eye in a group of bikes for sale. I think (in my untrained eye and little brain) that it was someone's attempt at a tribute bike. Am I right?
Enamored by ww2 bikes, but really can't afford them... Low and behold my father in law stops by to drop of a ladder for me and said "hey, there's an old bike out for free at the end of your road. Hopped in the truck and wasn't expecting much but my eyes grew big when it came into sight. It's got...
Saw this at the end of my road out front for free. Saw the frame and was hoping I stumbled on a military huffman. Low and behold its badged western flyer...bummer. Dont think any badged that way were military. Anyone decipher the serial? Thinking early 40s.

Does the extra bracket in the rear triangle make this a military model?

I can certainly get better pictures. Want to get a nice bike for my kid so letting something go. Missing front light. Tires are ugly gumwalls but hold air and can ride with them. Paint will clean up better, chrome on bars and crankset is probably shot but maybe can be brought back a bit...
I'm looking for a 26" wheel bike for my kid, but he's 10 so I'm thinking a 13" frame...which is proving hard to find. Not junk, good condition. Specialized, Giant, Trek, Marin, etc.. Anything out there?
Anyone have any lit. on this model? I look at Elgins a lot but don't think I've seen this paint scheme before. I know it's Westfield built circa 1940-42. Anyone recognize what kind of siren that is on the bars? (second picture to see it)
I doubt this is worth it. Rough, missing tank, etc... The head is there though. Seller said he was offered 800 but was looking for 1k. I think Ill tell him grab the 800 and run to the bank smiling.

What model is this? Not familiar with a paint scheme with the Elgin script on the boys tank. I've seen the girls tank with the script, just not the boys. Kind of cool reverse paint fenders. Not quite sure the originality...
Not sure why I'm buying this.... I'm a prewar ballooner guy, but a few minutes from my house and pocket change, I had to go for it. If it was any other color, forget it, but the violet is cool.

The good....cool prewar bike that you dont see too often. No rust issues, just surface rust on inside of tank but no rot. Rideable as is.
The bad...housepainted. I did some removal and found some good OG paint as well as bare metal. Seems like it...
This popped up 20 minutes from my house. Was out the door and back an hour after seeing the ad. I think 1940 from my research? House painted of course, but I get to see whats underneath. Last reg sticker on it was 1970 so it had a long life of being on the road. I normally hate house painted...
Saw this today. I apologize if its not a boneshaker...not too up to date on my bike terminology of this vintage. Thought you guys would like to see. They said it was probably made local (Nazareth, Pa)

I feel like I have to ask this to the Schwinners in here.... what's with people calling them "Schwann"? I see it all over the place, even on here. I see it so much I actually do CL and EBay searchings using that spelling. Am I missing something? The A and I aren't even close to each other on the...
Up for consideration here, 1902 shaft drive. Not original paint but all there and rides smooth. Nice leaf spring saddle. Tires may be glue on, not sure and I dont want to harm things trying to figure it out.
