Hello, Art! Yea, it hits hard sometimes. You'll more than likely be drawn to a certain type, model or era of classic bicycle! There are way too many to mention in one discussion, and to help you out you must first let the great folks here know what you like. Welcome aboard, Friend!
European made. The clip is designed to adapt to many different models, mainly the 3 speed models. I have a similar one on a bike from Holland (Hartog).
Yes, Evapo-Rust works great and does not harm paint! If you're trying to remove mild surface rust from vertical parts, you can soak a rag in the solution and somehow attach it to the parts, wrapping it around or use small strips of painters tape to hold the soaked rag in place, wait a few hours...
Thanks, Sir. It's been a while since I've posted anything. I think I do have an album, but I'll have to relearn how to work through the forum.
Thank you and anyone who visits the channel.
MR D (Dennis)
I hope this type of self promotion isn't frowned on here, but I started this only a few months ago to show the work in video form instead of pictures! Please subscribe and leave a comment! Thanks again!
Please check out some custom builds on my YouTube channel! Just go to YouTube and type in "dennis allport". Or just click on this link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdwRx1DJCTvy-1pXMa_u1zA. Thanks for checking it out!
Been a long time for me here.
I have a Champion V8 headbadge (upside down Christmas tree style) CWC made. I am restoring it and need a picture of what colors were used. Any help is surely appreciated!
Thank you in advance for anyone's help in this.
Mr D
Very cool, thanks, everyone for the answers!
I was only told it was "kinda" rare or sparse. I have someone that's interested in the hub and wheel, but I now have some better knowledge...and will hang on to it...for now!
I will be at Ann Arbor next weekend with the bike, and we'll see what...
The top one has different parts...Aluminum painted rims, older style seat, and the fender light is flush mount with the red and green side marker lens.
That's the only differences I can spot.
Mr.D
I have a "39 CWC Roadmaster that has a (hand operated) coaster style FRONT wheel.
Question...because I've never seen this before...how rare is this wheel? Any value?
Thanks in advance,
Mr.D
The title of this thread should be "Money Spent". Because once you spend money for THIS bike, you have to keep it! No way you could get any amount back in re-sale if you so desire later on down the road.
It also appears you may be missing the inner gear housing. In this case without it that end will be useless.
I have the same Stewart Warner Speedo, complete with Cadette dial. My problem is the inner cable is broken. I am fashioning a new cable which will have to be cut down to size.
This is something I've wanted to write for the last couple of years. It is MY opinion. Not meant to distract from anyone else's views or opinions. It is not meant to change anything.
Thank you for reading...if you do. Comment if you like...
What I've read into quite a few of the responses is that we ALL would care deeply for a bike if the original condition was fair or better. If the paint is still in good condition, we would love to leave it be and display or ride it till the wind knocks the patina right off of it. Is THIS a...
Yep, One of the better repops of that time. It should say five star (something) on the top of the down tube. I have one of the models of that bike...1/16th scale I believe.
This is what gets me about anyone elses opinions on things in general. Using words like "should" as if there is NO other way...no other opinion. We all take turns owning things, we do what we like with them. This does not create a new story for the item, it IS a continuation of the story of an...
These two bike have been shown here in the past, but I think they fit into this thread. They are both 24" boys and girls Schwinn bikes from 1962 or there abouts. I built them specifically as twins.
Of course not original paint or parts...that would have been a serious undertaking. At least...
What I personally would find interesting, is seeing a very good restoration (or restomod) with pictures of the drips and thin paint from the factory (for comparison). Correcting their product in a manor that was intended but not feasible (or viable) due to manufacturer time constraints. Use the...
Have any pictures? I'd try to sell that boys 20" on an auction site...have you seen what people are willing to pay? It seems the smaller bikes are becoming a novelty for collectors.
I guess I could have placed this in the Schwinn pages, but it fits here in General too.
I picked this little bike up in Ann Arbor Mi. Swap meet. I had plans to work on it throughout the cold winter months. I know it's a girls bike, but it was a good candidate for a total resto (In my...
The advice given so far has been pretty good. Before you use polishing components on your finish you have to make sure that it's fully cleaned of grease, grime and grit. I use a solution of Dawn dish soap & hot water with soft round brushes. I find it easy to spray it off with a hose, then use...
Just reading responses here about the same thing in question I gathered that skip tooth and rear dropouts did not always indicate pre-war bicycles. I had a 20" AMF Roadmaster kids bike with rear dropouts and 1/2" chain ring and rear end. Most everything else looked as if pre-war. There was no...
This looks normal for Schwinn rims. They are pressed and welded, and yes sometimes there will be a small area that looks warped, but the tires fit fine and will not pull out. Just watch when you mount the tires. A little pressure at a time and keep it seated.
Looking at your picture it looks...
For Scott...
I just want you to know that I just read your other thread (How much is this bike worth), AFTER I posted this one. If you or anyone can help to tell me when it was made, that's all I want. I don't really care what kind of money it's worth because I intend on keeping it and...
I was just given a Hawthorne two piece bike. It is in nice restoreable condition. I would like to know when it was made. I hope you knowledgeable folks can help me with this one.
The serial number was found on the left rear dropout...C456752. It also has the letters SE above the serial...
I don't have a problem suggesting that if this bike is to be owned a ridden by your wife, then ask her what she would like. There is nothing written in stone that says you cannot or should not improve the look of a bicycle. Rust (patina) is for those that may want to preserve an identity of an...
There used to be a time period when manufacturing bicycles was not only business, it was artistic. Small details came and went depending on what the designers wanted for their designs to stand out (to the buying public). It would be very difficult to pin point any one manufacturer as the "best"...
One mans junk is Ron's treasure. I wonder why he was not willing to sell anything? With that much mass how could he possibly miss a few of them?
I think that when a person gets to that point he is doing way more damage than good (from the collectors point of view). Most of the bikes were...
Here's one on the bay...

I have a PPG store right around the block from me. I will be seeing if they can put car enamel into a spray can for me (custom mixed to match colors) I'm talking about! I'm actually excited about this!
That said, I have used Rustoleum with pretty good results. You have their choice of colors...
Like the title says, is there anyone around the Detroit area that can roll out fenders. I would like to bring back some "52 Schwinn fenders for a 20" girls bike I'm planning on restoring. The fenders will be the only hard part about this project.
Also quote some prices if you can provide this...
And...I love ladies & girls. To surprise them with a nearly complete restored older style bike has won me a few favors in my past!
I agree that it's a shame that many guys will not see the real value in ownership of these nicer ladies bikes, and keep their parts where they were intended. I am...
They are just collectors. They will sell if you have enough cash and a few small children to offer up (joke). American pickers dudes got away with a glass reflector and a microphone. They also found the real value in a King Kong movie poster that was hanging in the son's "house".
the deal...
I was at MLC Yesterday (Friday). I had a great time wandering the grounds. Seeing some real gems being road around was a real treat. I know i saw a few CABE mebers, but couldn't tell you who they were. I just know they were there. I was there with my buddies from East side bike shop in Michigan...
Good ol' lemon juice soaking! brass brush and some 0000 fine steel wool does it for chrome or other metals. It smells better than vinegar or other solvents.
