For a year that showed so much promise.
This year is shaping up to be a bust!
I was looking forward to the match up between Van Aert and Van Der Poel in the Tour of Flanders this weekend.
Uggh!
Now Van Der Poel can pretty much just phone it in.

What a bummer!
I’m working on a bike that has a set of Weinmann sidepull caliper brakes.
The front cable anchors on the left side, when seated on the bike, facing forward.
The rear brake cable bosses are on the right side of the top tube.
So, my dilemma is;
Should I route the cables the American standard way...
Most of these, tend to be European, but the artistry in them, is so fantastic, that I thought we should have a thread, dedicated to vintage bicycle posters.
Feel free, to post some of your favorites,
Here are just a few, to kick things off.
Be it, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, or Roosevelt, Let’s see those President bikes!
Here’s my 1936 Schwinn built, Lincoln.
Malice towards none!
Well, I guess history proved that to be wishful thinking.
But, his heart was in the right place.
I love this bike, and he’s a big reason why...
Looking for a late 1890’s 9 tooth cog with a 36mm opening.
Here is the hub it screws on to.
Maybe it looks familiar?
Check your stash guys.
This one has definitely seen better days.
I’ve tried several different cogs, and they all come up just a tad too small.
9 tooth, 36mm opening.
Thanks...
This one has me stumped.
I’m working on a 1898/99 Schwinn/World, model 22 Roadster, and the method for securing the handlebar and stem to the fork, is a new one to me. I can see that the handlebar threads into the stem, and then is clamped into position with a large hollow bolt.
At first, I...
I was coming unglued, so I decided I’d better get a grip, and put a clamp on my separation anxiety issues.
Not good, when your crack is showing.
Especially at my age.
125 years is asking a lot, from that old horse hide glue.
So, a few carefully shaped blocks of wood, and some Titebond, and...
In a moment of weakness, I sprung for a 1958 Bianchi, Lario. Sport Tourist model.
I’ve always admired these late 50’s Italian city bikes, and couldn’t resist this one when I saw it.
It’s en route from Barletta Italy, to reside in Southern California, so it’s going to be a long way from home...
Ok, now I know this is going to be a long shot, but I’ve recently acquired a bike, that everybody wanted to be a Schwinn.
The only problem is,
It’s not a Schwinn.
It’s an 1896 The Andrae.
So, I would like to stop perpetuating the myth, and return this bikes identity.
So it and I would greatly...
So, a perfect candidate for a project I’ve been thinking of got posted for sale last night.
I replied immediately once I saw it, but apparently was just a hair too late. Uggh!
I’ve had a want ad up for months, so I thought I’d give a cursory look, to see if it popped up with a casual query...
Here’s an interesting new book offering, from Corsa Classics.
When researching Campy parts for my 1959/60 Schwinn Paramount, I kept finding references to the Japanese collector,
Hiroshi Ichikawa.
At the time, I could only imagine what his collection was like?
Well now, here’s our chance to get...
If you’re anywhere near LA today, it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Mariachi Plaza
Hollenbeck Park
6th St. Bridge.
Good time for a breakfast burrito.
Hello!
McFly!
Where have you been?
A little late to actually start taming the Wild West of motorized cycles!
But, I guess, it’s better late, than never.
Typical pathetic bureaucracy though.
Totally complicate a simple concept.
If it doesn’t take human power to make it go, it...
Which late 1890’s saddle brands used this type of cane mesh in the cutout?
I found this picture of a Mesinger, but I assume there were others?I’m doing some research for an old 1897 Ladies model, and about the only thing left of the saddle, is what was left of that woven cane mesh.
Did...
This, from the phenomenal, young Belgian superstar, Remco Evenepoel, after winning the first mountain top stage of this years Vuelta d’Espana.
“For three days now, I’ve been on the receiving end of poor organization, and now, they are just busting my balls.”
This guy is amazing!
Now he’s...
Not, the Aerocycle!
Not even the whole tail light assembly!
Just the single glass lens!
Outstanding!
I’m sure the seller is absolutely blown away.
Spectacular result!
So, I was digging through the stem box, and I came across this unfamiliar one.
Since it had a brand name on it, I decided to look it up, to see what I could find out.
To my surprise, I see that this particular stem is referred to as, “The Death Stem!”
Oh, yeah!
Nice selling feature.
I had a little free time on my hands today, and I happened to be in the area, so I thought I’d stop by for my annual pilgrimage to the holy land, that is, Velo Pasadena.
This amazing bike shop and museum, is about as close to Heaven on Earth as there is.
It’s a must see, if you are even...
Looking for 1-3/4” Schwinn script reflector with the black steel housing.
Let me know, if you have one available, or see one in your travels.
Thanks!
Marty
Ok, this may be a dumb question, but you know what they say about the dumbest question, being the one that was never asked.
I see these footpegs on turn of the century type bicycles, and I was just curious what they were used for?
I kind of think I can guess, but since they typically were only...
I went out to Irvine Park to see the newly constructed Big Cat exhibit at the Orange County Zoo.
While there, I came across a nice bronze statue of County patriarch, James Irvine II.
His family had been granted this chunk of the New World, by the King of Spain.
Proof that it’s good to be at the...
I’ve been thinking about picking up a Sting-Ray for several years now.
I always thought if I was going to add one to the collection, that it should be one of the dazzling colors like violet or green.
Then, this little gem popped up on eBay a couple of weeks ago.
I know, most of you hard core...
I obtained this old bike path sign a few years ago, so I was pleasantly surprised, when I came across this mention of its creation recently.
I have been lobbying our local City Council to consider extending the oceanfront bike path, so I have some appreciation for how hard it is, to...
An odd coincidence occurred today without any forethought.
We had planned on riding our old pre 33 bicycles to the annual Model A Ford pancake breakfast gathering in Old Towne Orange, California.
But due to inclement weather, the event was postponed.
So we decided to meet up for a ride in San...
Anybody got a time machine?
I’d sure like to go back and visit this shop.
This last photo is interesting.
It shows a Paramount on the left, a New World in the middle, and a Superior on the right.
All Sports Tourist models, equipped with a rear brake only.
The Paramount has the Webb...
Ok, I know, Bob is going to hate this thread.
But, a recent estate sale got me to thinking.
How many bikes Bob Uszaszi has restored for clients over the years?
Enough so, that there is now a body of work, that should stand the test of time.
So, let’s see your Bob U. Bike!
Here’s a few pictures...
