The bike was a '69 or '70 Sky Blue Super Sport. Doug Clifford said about the bike that he used to get to Cosmo's Factory in Berkeley, “I rode that bike to work every day, I lived up in the hills, seven and a half miles away. Coming to practice was all downhill, and going home after playing drums...
My thought is the kid sitting on the low barrel was the odd one out. The only one with white sneakers which at the time in my town were definitely not worn by cool kids anymore. Probably a little younger and a wannabe.
60sstuff,
As always (decades) I appreciate your vast contributions to this hobby and the effort it takes to research.
A couple more data points;
June 69 (FE) Slik Chik with Violet Flek paint

For me, this is the classic Sting Ray. In my neighborhood growing up, I remember 20 new Sting Rays (1963-1967) and their owners of which 8 were Sky Blue J-38 models. Of those, 4 were 1965, the most popular.
Thanks Chris again for sharing pics of this great bike.

My bike appears to have a serial number on the rear dropout of the form, WXXXXXX. Bike looks like a 1964 or 1963. Does this number seem possible? I would have thought it would have had a 3 or 4 before the letter. Was "W" ever used by Huffy for their serial numbers?
Thanks,
Bill
I have a frame I am attempting to identfy. I has a plate on the bottom bracket that is difficult to read. I think it says Sears Roebuck with the serial number A134823. The sprocket is a skip tooth and the crank has the numbers C-1002 on one side and the letter "c" in a circle followed by a...
