An older gentleman dropped by the shop the other day, saying he had brought some things for me.
I guess it's finally getting around that I'm into this stuff...
He said he had one more motor that he hadn't found yet, which would make sense, as there is two of everything else. This stuff is...
What were the thread specifications for the standard brakes back in the day?
I know ND used a proprietary one, but what about Morrow? Bendix? Musselman?
I'm just trying to figure out if there is any compatibility between the nuts, or if axles could be swapped in a pinch.
I just happened across this little guy today, it wasn't stuck and seemed to have good compression.
Any guesses as to how old it is, and what may be missing?
With progress being made on the motormaster, I can't borrow the saddle from it anymore.
I'd really like to come up with one of those persons whizzer saddles, but those are kinda scarce, so
I'll settle for a stout long spring saddle.
Condition isn't really important, if the leather is gone, I...
I'm looking for something similar to the old whizzer H controls to use on my evinrude motormaster engine. The engine has both throttle and compression release, which I believe were originally actuated with the same lever. For the time being I may need to hook them up independently until I figure...
I clipped a curb and finished off a repop teardrop pedal today...
Did a heck of a job if I do say so myself.
Anyway, I just need a halway decent set of block pedals to replace them, I don't need anything fancy.
If anyone thinks they can use anything off this set, they are welcome to them...
I got to talking about old bikes with a guy at my local machine shop, and long story short he said he had an old aluminum bike frame in the shed out back that an old friend had won in a contest in the 30's.
I was running late for work, and it was pretty buried, but from the best I could tell it...
With the 4th of july coming up, I need to get a few bikes rideable for the local parade.
So, I need a seat of some sort for my 191? peerless , even if its just a brooks of some sort to get me by.
Then I need a set of pedals for my 1901 crescent, as the repops I ended up with bit the dust...
My whizzer caught the wind just right the other day and took a good fall-tweaked the stem pretty good.
Would prefer a razor stem if possible, but anything that's straight will do.
Thanks.
I've got an EA pancake horn that's nice and crusty, that coincidentally does not work.
Has anyone ever ventured inside of one of these in an attempt to fix it?
I would like very much to get this thing working.
I finally swapped in my Sturmey archer front brake into the whizzer, only to find it sits in the fork crooked, tilting to the left rather severely, causing a significant pull. It wasnt like that before with the old wheel, and I don't know why this one would be any different, it's true and dished...
I've got a Sturmey archer front drum brake I was going to put on my whizzer, but the axle is stripped, and a bit too short by the time the truss rods, fender braces, and speedo is on.
I need to come up with a proper replacement somehow, and I doubt a stock replacement would be long enough.
So...
I'm lacing a bendix coaster hub up to a Schwinn S2 for my whizzer with .120 gauge stainless spokes from memory lane.
Using the standard cross 3 pattern, the spokes are way too long!
I don't think a cross 4 will work due to the spokes binding, and the wheel was cross 3 before I'm pretty sure...
I'm about finished putting my whizzer together, the bike is a postwar B6, (for the most part)
However, to finish it properly I need a few more things,
A saddle, preferably a mesinger B1, or something similar,
A razor stem
A rear carrier in original maroon paint
A brake lever of some sort
A...
I need a set of 26" schwinn ballooner rims for an early postwar project.
Painted or chrome, S2 or drop center, it doesn't matter.
It would be nice if they were in relatively decent shape cosmetically and true.
Hubs/spokes are not necessary.
Thanks
I have the opportunity to buy this,
The seller wants $550 for it, which seems high to me. Maybe if it had a truss rods and a decent set of singletubes.
I'm thinking like $200 tops, and that is only because I really want an elgin.
Thoughts?
I need a delta rocket ray, preferably in maroon, though I will settle for a different color.
-A set of schwinn postwar balloon fenders also in maroon. They don't have to be NOS in fact a few dings and scrapes are preferred. Bonus points if the rear fender has cutouts for a whizzer.
-A...
Well, this bike has changed hands a few times amongst our community, and now it has come to me.
I'm hoping I can get this little thing up and running fairly soon, if anyone has any info on it, or leads on any parts please let me know.
I promise lots of youtube videos once I get it running...
I've procrastinated too long on this one, A few of my bikes are going to be making appearances in the local Independence Day parade this year, and I'm thinking a few period correct flags flying from the handlebars would make them complete.
Does anyone have a few spares they wouldn't miss?
Thanks
This doesn't look like too bad of a deal.

Someone buy it, I'm tempted to buy it simply for the front fender and light, but that would be morally wrong....
AS bolts- $7 for the pair
I don't recall what this thing is called specifically, but it has a heavy coat of old silver paint, and shiny chrome peeks out here and there, It might clean up pretty well.-$15
A rather nice spring, and the nut, a little dirty still, but it should all come off...
I have scoured the net, and have yet to find anything on these.
Does anyone have any advertisements, or catalog pages?
Is there anything on these besides the 2 restored examples that google turns up?
-I'm looking for a schwinn springer, for a boy's bike preferably the earlier style with the more curved springer arms. It doesn't have to have the cycelock
-If a complete springer isn't available, at the very least I need the steerer tube and base from one.
-All related headset hardware...
I have heard on occasion that regular 1/2" pitch chain will run correctly on skiptooth sprockets.
Is that correct?
I'm in a bit of a pinch with an impatient 9 year old who wants his bike rolling again, and I would rather not cut down one of my spare chains just for this...
I was thinking about this the other day, as texas has some odd laws applying to motorized bikes/scooters/anything.
Due to the actual engine displacement and horsepower, it almost appears as if it would be considered a motorcycle, which would require license, registration, and insurance(ouch)...
Anyone have a spare? I would prefer that it is complete, so I could just "drop it in" one of my less deluxe ballooners.
A complete bike with the motor would be ok too, though I think shipping would be easier if it was just the motor and whatever else goes with it.
Let me know what you have...
I found this on my local CL for $400,
I'm no elgin expert, but I tend to think that at the very least, the fenders, seat, and paint are wrong.
But on the bright side, I'm thinking a whizzer motor would fit very nicely...
Any opinions?

Price is a bit high for what it's missing.
Seat looks a little mooshed, and the horn/headlight is missing, but it doesn't look too bad.
I need a set of preferably NOS bearings for this hub here,
It has started to "pop" and I can't track it down. The races look fine, so the next logical step is to replace the bearings.
Thanks
Zach
Within the last few months, all of a sudden, my 1935 schwinn has taken to making a rather loud "clunk" whether I am riding it, or walking it, though it is much louder when I am riding it.
Here is what I can tell you.
-It feels like it is up front
-it does it coasting, and under power, with me...
It's about time I finally picked up the only part my '51 phantom is missing. The bike has the ND model D with the groove in the sprocket for the mechanically actuated switch, and that is what I would like to find...
If nothing turns up, the later style with the pendulum switch would also be...
So, the head tube on my silver king frame is pretty hacked up, and the fork is missing..
It is going to require some "reconstructive surgery".
The way a fork and bearing cups were carelessly crammed in make me worry that the head tube is wallowed out.
Now, is the diameter of the steerer tube...
I have this silver king frame that someone did some hacking on to make a different headset fit...
It's been shortened rather messily in order to make a shorter fork fit, and there is a small crack from a bearing cup that was too big being forced in.
Now, I have access to, and experience with a...
I have a 30's silver king frame that needs some things, so for starters, I need-
-The entire front headset, fork, bearings, cups, etc
-A crank, with bearing cones
-Some sort of handlebar stem from that era
-A saddle that would look acceptable on a silver king.
Thanks
So, I have searched this site, along with many others trying to figure out how to nail down the year of manufacture of a silver king bike..
So, when did they first start being produced?
What features are there to tell them apart (year wise)?
Do the "windowed" lugs mean anything?
This mainly...
I've been kicking myself for passing on one at a swap meet a little while back, So I figured I would check with you guys.
I'm looking for a boys silver king, the aluminum type, year or level of completeness unimportant.
I'm just looking for a rider, so nothing has to be show quality.
Thanks
Zach
As the title states, I am looking for a cycleplane of some sort for a project, so it doesn't have to be very nice, or very complete.
I know one of you guys has a rusty one stashed in a shed somewhere....
Thanks
As stated in the in the title, the Musselman coaster brake on my Peerless has almost no stopping power.
Everything seems to be in order internally, with all components adequately lubricated.
Can someone with one of these hubs chime in? Is it supposed to stop like that?
Well, after cleaning, greasing, getting tires, figuring out that armless brake, here it is.
Armless coaster brake
It doesn't look like it, but this thing has an absurd gear ratio, and it can pick up some serious speed.
Does anyone have a C model schwinn of some sort, be it complete or not, they would want to part with?
Any condition is fine, with rougher being preferable.
Thanks.
