I have a ladies 22” Roadster that is surplus at the moment. It is all original right down to the tubes, tires, pump and Brooks B72 saddle. It is a 1973. It literally hasn’t been ridden since the late 1970s and needs to be stripped, lubed and cleaned. I really don’t want to ship this bike, so...
Making some progress on the Raleigh International I painted last fall. I hate wet sanding and buffing. Hope to have this road ready by Lake Pepin. It is a bit slow because some of the components were made in 1974, and some were made this year. Everything has to be mocked up and tried. 22” frame...
This is a bike I bought locally from an older gentleman who bought it new for his wife. He didn’t have a good answer for why he bought a men’s bike for his wife, I guessed maybe it was availability, but, for whatever reason, his wife simply didn’t ride it. It hung in his basement for decades...
This is a 1972 vintage Raleigh 20 folder. I serviced it a few years ago, it got a new chain, new Scorcher slicks and inner tubes, new Kool Stop salmon pads, and a 19 tooth sprocket to replace the 17 tooth that it came with. I can send the 17 tooth along with, if you are into that sort of thing...
These never seem to be long enough to comfortably use on a pre war bike. I took some time last weekend to turn and burn a more useful one for my 1941 Colson Scout. I got around to installing it tonight, and it is much, much better for actually riding the bike.
I’m pretty happy with the results...
One of you owns, or, owned this 1941 Scout. I lifted the pictures, here, for archive questions. My question is does anyone believe this is original paint on this bike, particularly the fenders? Seems most have the Chevrons on the fenders, this one clearly doesn’t.
Related, does anyone sell a...
The 1940 Colson catalog was graciously posted with a link, Thanks to whoever did that. I know “Scout” models existed, but, the bike doesn’t seem to be in the catalog. Was the Special model actually the Scout? Also, the catalog seems to list accessories with each model, but I’ve seen bikes that...
I see pictures of bikes all the time that have cool green and red jewels or reflectors built into the ends. But, I don’t know what the are called, who built them, or where I can find a set. The grips are usually black, guess that is the color I’d like.
Are they made anymore?
Thanks
Ted
I looked for a Colson for years. Found a few bare frames, mostly junk, but, my Dad, an orphan born in 1929 got one, most likely used, during the Second World War. After the tires were shot on the family car, my dad’s foster father rode it to work, spring, summer, fall, winter, for about three...
These are the racks that were dealer installed on customer bikes at Raleigh shops. The rack is sized for Sports version bikes, and if you get down to about a 17” frame, they don’t fit. They also don’t fit a 24” Roadster, might work on the 22” version, but, I don’t know that for sure. Almost all...
My son rode this little 1963 Raleigh Colt for our English bike club rides, including the big one, around Lake Pepin, after he got it from another club member, when he was 6. He actually rode part of the Lake Pepin 3speed Tour when he was 5, on a little Trek mountain bike. He was insistent, at 6...
This is my dog running bike. I have the original wheels, seat, and seatpost, but use it with the Nexus three speed hubs and alloy wheels, and that Gyes beach cruiser seat, which, has at least two broken springs in it. Some of the Gyes seats had crummy springs in them. It isn’t worth fixing, and...
This will be the last bike on the rebuild docket for a while. It is a ladies 1973 DL1 Roadster, one of a pair I rescued out of northern Wisconsin. Thankfully, it is a 22” version, thank goodness, as I don’t know a woman tall enough for a 24”.
My first step was wetting down all the fasteners with...
A gent in California parted a 1940 Schwinn that was equipped with this hub, and not something he needed. The hub is correctly marked for a 1940 hub, with just the zero, representing 1940. Great price, but, he advised it was seized up. Well, it was, but, that isn’t a huge deal to me. It was a 36...
Our own Buck Hughes kindly thought of me when he decided he didn’t need this 1945-46 Minneapolis bike license plate, and turned it over to me.
What a great dude.
Now, I’d like to get it on my 1941 Colson Scout, but, I’m not sure how it would have been mounted, back in the day. It has two tiny...
For about a decade, my family and I have participated in The Lake Pepin three speed tour, a two day 90 mile ride in May, around Lake Pepin, a wide spot in the Mississippi River between Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is a pretty spot for a nice bike ride, and perfect if the weather cooperates.
You...
It came off my Colson when I bought it. No name, “PAT APL” mark on it, wondering if it is specific to some brand of bike, and worth anything.
I usually pitch these in the trash.

The oops man brought my fork today, I can’t believe my luck, the same amateur who painted the bike painted the replacement fork, two states away!
Color match, baby!
The fork is an exact match, dimension wise, anyway.
But, I have two sets of truss bars, and don’t know for sure which set belongs...
I’ve been working on this 1941 Colson Scout. It was rough, yes, seller told me it was rough, and I’ve had some good, dirty fun tracking down parts, and servicing bike stuff, like hubs and bearings. I got the thing so it is on it’s wheels, and can be pushed around the shop, instead of being...
Greetings!
A fellow CABEr, who shall remain nameless, in this post, set me up with an awesome old Colson rack, that will be perfect on my Scout. I’ve looked at many pictures on the Interweb thingy that Al Gore Jr. invented, and while I have a good idea how the struts that go to the wheel look...
Recently pulled these two out of the Reinlander area of Wisconsin. Ladies 1973 DL1L 22” Roadster, and a Men’s post 1980 DL1 24” Roadster. The ladies is as it left Nottingham in 1973, the men’s bike has had the seat and wheel replaced with earlier components. These were advertised on the CABE and...
I have a New Departure hub to rebuild, and several core hubs to pick and choose parts from. One of the hubs has the alternating discs made of steel, the other (older) has brass discs.
Is there a good reason to choose one over the other?
Ted
Anybody have one? Would like to put one on my 1941 Scout project. Give me a heads up here, or by PM. The rack I want looks just like the one on this Scout.
I owe big thanks to everyone who has helped so far. Very much appreciate you guys, you know who you are.
Ted
Bike is a 1941 Scout, seems these stands pop up regularly, post or send a photo with what you have. The frame has the ears for it, would be nice to get the clip for the fender at the same time.
Many Thanks!
Ted
First time Colson owner, first pre war bike. Somebody, back in the mists of time, slopped what appears to be black semi gloss oil based paint of some sort on my Scout, which, was sold as a 1941. This bike features copious quantities of rust, a few parts did not survive dismantling. So, that...
I am looking for the correct chain guard for a 1941 Colson Scout. Not looking for perfection or original paint, serviceable will do.
Thanks for looking.

A few years ago, I killed some time on a lay-off restoring this 1959 Tiger. I bought it from a guy who was losing his home, he had collected some parts, and I felt really bad for how his life was going.
I deviated from stock by using a crash bar seat, a chrome middleweight kick stand, and the...
Hello, folks.
Given the choice, would you guys build a fresh, new wheel using a Perry or a Durex hub. Qualifiers. The Durex will be the composite of two parts hubs. Both OK. I have two NOS Perry hubs to choose from, a Sturmey version with a lubricator port, and a Perry version, sans port, but...
On older Raleigh and other English lighting systems one sometimes finds an adapter, that allows a light with a simple 90 degree tab to be mounted to the typical square lamp bracket. I’ve seen pictures of them, and need one, but, I don’t even know for sure what the thing is called.
PM or email...
Just what the title says. Don’t care what color it it is MUST have original mounting hardware. PM here, prefer not to have running commentary in the ad, or one of the following options.
Email at [email protected] or phone is 763-785-7083.
Thanks in advance!

The fork in my 1956 JC Higgins 26" ballooner is junk. I have to find another one, and need some help. I think the same era Murray ballooner would work. Can anyone lend a hand? email at [email protected] if needed.
Thanks in advance,
Ted
On my way to check out this one:

Just looking for a ballooner to play with, maybe re-finish the paint, find a rack, or play with a different rear hub-two speed, three speed, whatever.
Low buck, at this point. If I end up with it...
Greetings! I'm a long time lurker, but, this is my first picture post. I just recently finished my first bicycle restoration, on a 1959 Tiger I purchased locally. I should qualify this by saying I have restored several muscle cars in the past, and don't consider myself an amatuer.
Photos...
Howdy. I would like to buy an NOS (or, pretty close to it) two brace front fender for a 1970's vintage Schwinn middleweight, a Heavy-Duti, in this case. I don't need the braces, just the fender, but, will take both if that is what you have. This bike doesn't have a drilled fork or a front brake...
Looking for, first choice, a used Brooks B15 with a fair amount of patina, to match my 1973 Schwinn Super Sport. Failing that, would consider a newer, used Brooks Professional or B17. Last choice would be a new Brooks B17. Not looking for a "bells and whistles" model B17 either-keep in mind...
Howdy,
I need a 26" Schwinn drilled fork for a middleweight with S7 wheels. Would like the chrome fender for the same application.
Let me know what you have.

Hello. Does anyone know what the rear bulb voltage is supposed to be on a 6 V Miller generator set?
With a 6V, it kills the headlight. With a 2.5V, not much changes. With no bulb (the way I got it) the front bulb burns bright and white.
The front bulb is marked "6V, Miller, Great Britain"...
My girls Hollywood is in need of a back rim, and why just have one speed? Looking to buy a complete rim with 2 speed hub. Vintage not critical (bike is a 1980, and didn't come that way) but, straight and un-dented is mandatory. If you have just a 36 hole hub, I'll consider it. Thanks for the...
The used rims and bikes I'm finding just haven't been good enough. I would like to buy one bare rim in never used condition. Prefer bare, as sold by Schwinn, no spokes or hub. Contact me here or at [email protected]
Thanks
Ted
A friend recently gave me the bike clamp part of a Park tool bicycle stand. It is new, and never has been used. It is frustratingly useless without the stand elements that make it complete. When I contacted Park, they were pretty much disinterested in helping me, unless I was willing to buy a...
I need either a complete set of two front and two rear (best case) or, at least one front and one rear. Details to [email protected]
Thanks in advance,
Ted
What is the proper way to remove the Schwinn brazed kickstand's internal parts for a proper repaint?
I don't want to create any more damage than I have to.
Thanks in advance.
Ted
Greetings,
I need the cable adjuster that threads into a 3 speed 1950s vintage Sturmey Archer shifter. Need not be NOS, but, usable, as in all threads intact. Mine is broken, and would like to get it working. Email at [email protected] and thanks for any and all assistance.
