So I am assembling a 1957 Schwinn Deluxe Hornet. It has the later style springer and is an S-7 bike. In mounting the front tire I find that I have about an inch of clearence between the top of the fender and the top of the tire. On the back/lower part of the fender the clearance is much less...
I was at the LBS today and found a used set of rims that I have never encountered before. They are side stamped Schwinn Tubular S-2, but they only have a single row of knurling. The rear hub looks pretty new, like from the 90s. Looking at the rims they appeared to not be as wide or as flat as...
Ah, well very cool then!
Yes the base coat is gold or silver. The name of the color is opalescent red. The paint is thin in several places because it was sanded/polished heavily in the past. I think it gives the bike a unique look.
My current project: Schwinn Deluxe Hornet built between July 27-31, 1957 according to the Schwinn serial number website. I'm currently closing the deal on a pair of nice S-7 rims to complete it. The originals are beyond trashed and I'm not even going to waste any time on them. The paint is...

Here are some fresh pictures I took this afternoon. It really is a sharp looking bike! I may have to part with one of my Roadmasters before I let this one go.
I posted pictures of this bike before, but now I have pictures of the markings on the bottom bracket. I got this bike back in May. I was hoping to do a little work to it, but the only thing I've managed to do is add a pair of grips lol.
Anyway, can anyone identify what year this bike is? Also...

Thanks!

In the mean time I found a scan of a 1940 catalog, I think it shows my bike. Unfortunately the text is unreadable from my phone.

Very nice bike jpromo! Yes it is quite similar to mine. Were you riding that around at Motor Muster last year?
I'll take a bunch of better pictures tomorrow. The pictures in the first post were taken with my phone right when I got home from the show where I found the bike.
I must say I'm...
I was just looking it over and I see it has a decal on the front fender saying it is actually built by Columbia. I said Westfield initially because of the old threads I found on this forum. So now I'm confused.
I got this bike yesterday at a military vehicle show and swap meet. I gave $150, not sure what it is worth at this point, but I know it's got to be worth more than what I paid. It really looks to be a survivor, albeit a little rough. Original paint and chrome, the Persons seat is still solid...
I had a great time at both ML and AA. I found plenty of good deals and got nearly everything I need to complete a couple current projects. I wasn't after anything particularly rare, but whenever I can find parts for less than I would pay on the sale section here or on eBay I count it as a win...
Thats really interesting. Good to have this confirmed.
Also interesting that I've asked on this very forum in the past and was told late 1950s. Searching old threads on this and other forums I also found that to be the answer given. Weird no one else ever mentioned the use of this style of...
