I'd try to strip off the black paint, clean it up, clean up the chrome and then give it a boiled linseed oil wipe down.
I like removing old re-paints on bikes....I feel like an archeologist uncovering its true past.
Very nice. I have the exact same frame and chain guard.... I think its a '59. On mine the upper part of the chain guard is red and has 'Sky King' in white letters.
The photos at the top are what my '62 looked like when I purchased it. As mentioned, these old Schwinns clean up really well....mine came out real nice with enough patina to signify 'Old American Schwinn'. New CST whitewall tires fill out the fenders nicely and the bike rolls like butter.
Congratulations on a beautiful Debutante!
I have one not nearly as nice tucked away in the back of my storage unit, was just looking at it yesterday. I paid $75 for it a couple years back...it was a CL find and the lady was also running a garage sale the day I picked it up....I had it parked...
Beautiful bike, very nice progress! And gorgeous Model T as well.
Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone were very good friends, Ford's original Quadricycle still wears its Firestone tires.
That ought to turn out nice. Good foundation to work with.
I had my '65 Huffy out on display, posed in front of the Christmas tree just like it was Christmas morning 50 years ago.
.....97% of whom agree with the realities of global warming; no longer a question of 'if', but rather how to slow the process down.
The beauty of this El Nino is that it is forecast to last right through early spring....the flipside is that insect larvae usually wiped out during a cold winter...
It would be great to see this up on its feet again. PB Blaster is your friend for bolt removal, just needs multiple applications and several days soaking time.
Many good threads here on rust removal using products such as Rust Evaporator, oxalic acid. Once you dissolve most of that rust, give...
Nice work on this, that polished fender looks great.
I've had good luck using a 50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid as a penetrating fluid....just needs time to soak.
Actually it was a desperation hook and ladder play, Rogers ended up with the ball and was tackled. When #12 ends up with his chinstrap in his mouth, refs will call facemask 10 times outta 10....as someone else mentioned, Rogers, Brady and Manning are the NFL's rating stars.
The Lions have been owned by the Ford family since '62. They've run it like a business...profit vs. loss....nearly every game here is a sellout = high profit, why invest in big name talent?
Their last title was in '57....never been to a Superbowl, not even close. They need an owner like Robert...
The Lions are an absolute joke, have been ever since I can remember. I have refused free tickets, wouldn't waste my time to watch JV football. They play in an enclosed stadium that is more of an auditorium than football field.
Now that the alcoholic owner Bill Ford has passed, we'll see what...
Excellent write-up and beautiful bike...thanks for sharing.
Can't beat the Fat Franks, they look great on these old bikes and roll as smooth as butter.
