Glad to see someone here has read the article I did on the Buffalo Soldiers with my 1897 Spalding. I bought it ten years ago on US ebay and had a lot of fun dressing it up. Still have it hanging up in my garage. cheers, Colin

Not cheap, and it's a pile of parts. But have you ever seen one for sale before? If you're bored with common WW2 folding military bikes (BSA / Compax), this could be your next project :)
The few complete ones that come onto the market in Germany sell for 7500 euros or more. You can use any...
6000 bikes 1890 through 1891 - is that possible? equals around 75 bikes built each week.
Are there any records of Columbia, G&J and Victor output for the same period? How does LD / IJ price compare with bikes from those 3 market leaders? If they were cheaper presumably they could have sold more...
in case you haven't already worked it out, I dated mine as 1927, going by the date of the advert

Darren I sold a Vialle a few years ago. The info is easily found on the internet. Here's its page -

Brant - yes, the update was that I built it up out of parts I bought on french ebay at the same time, and then sold it.
As i reckoned it was a German bike with suspension, I did a whole piece on it entitled 'springtime for hitler'. But my wife said it was in bad tatste and could be...
the only difference between a normal Hettrick and a Crockett is the headbadge and the canvas hoop which have the Crockett name on them. If yours does not have those, then it is a Hettrick not a Crockett
Anyone near Ironton, Ohio who could pick up, pack and ship a bike to my friend in Illinois please?
I can arrange and pay bikeflights, and pay for your service as required
thanks, Colin
Arrived today. WW1 Columbia 'Military Model'. My friend bought it in Normandy, France.
The saddle is not a military one.
My original paint unrestored Columbia Military Model (shown in the 3rd photo, in an extract from my book) has a 'USA' prefix serial number, whereas this one has a 'T' prefix...

'Humber' is simply the name that people used to give to unidentified 1890s bicycles. As an example, it's like someone in the UK finding an unknown make US frame and calling it a Schwinn. The reason is that around 1893 - 1895 many companies copied Humber's frame designs. There were hundreds of...
Shawn hope you got a min. To hear my Secret !
haha I like your secret Mark. I've likewise, over many years, managed to get my wife used to the fact that whenever we drive to another town to stay somewhere, we might have to do one stop on the way there and another on the way back. It's ok as...
When I took my BSA Airborne to LA to film the 1st episode of Combat Cash, and they 'bought' it from me, the crew all sat around after filming laughing about the people who thought it was for real. Of course after it was on TV someone commented on one of the forums how the price was too high
Here's original unrestored one, found in France, used in WW1 (same model was sold in USA after 1918)
You can see serial number for reference, plus 'USA' military saddle, colour etc etc

Made mid to late 1920s. I researched and wrote up a piece on Garton and Badger on this page -

Are the nuts metric or whitworth? Do british pedals fit?
Chainwheel looks french style but could also be british. The transfers (decals in your lingo) look british. The mudguards and box lining (pin striping) look british. I'd plump for british. You didn't say if the brightwork is nickel or...
HELP! - I have a New Departure coaster hub brake on a TOC Columbia that's missing a vital part to make it engage.
Normal ND coaster hubs have different internals, so i can't use my spares.
So i'd either like to buy a replacement hub suitable for a Columbia shaft drive, buy the missing part, or...
