I finally finished reinstalling all the parts, waiting for a new cotter for a crank arm.The bike rides ok and the brakes work pretty good, but even with the seat all the way down, the bike is a little tall for me. Guess I'll flip it.
I picked up this little Schwinn today. The seller says he remembers riding it at age 5 in 1953. It was his older brothers before him.
This was included in today's haul. It's a skip tooth.
This one too. It's not a skip tooth.
I also got some wheels.
One of the tandems I have is this green Dec '71. It currently has wrong mismatching wheels that I plan to upgrade. I would like to install a good rear brake, like the drum on my '85 Columbia Twosome. Where is a good source for one?
Here's a Dec 71 Schwinn tandem that I've had for a few years. I'm going to see if the green paint will clean up. It currently has two wrong mismatching wheels.
I think I remembered something about tandems that I learned before... Ones with the chrome chain rings, like mine, didn't get the long guards. I think.
I just picked up this '85 Columbia Twosome tandem cheap. With two new chains I think it would be rideable.
I wonder if some Twosomes came without chainguards? I've seen a lot of pics of them without.
After some research, I believe it's a 1985 model, the only year badged "Classic by Columbia".
And I know that the pedals are out of alignment but the chains both need replacing so I'll deal with it then.
I picked up this Columbia Twosome five speed tandem today cheap. I believe it will be an easy restoration. I haven't found the serial yet but can anyone tell me the age of it by the style of the decals or head badge? I had parts of Twosomes before but I don't think they were five speeds or had...
I dragged these two out of my stash to restore them so my wife and I can ride them. I found the Alco a few years ago, missing one rear rim and spokes, but the special hub was present. I just laced on a replacement 24" rim. The Joannaou will need a complete repaint and tires.
The finish looks more blue than green to me. The wheels are both the same size and both anodized (?) black but at least one has been replaced. The tires are "skinnier" than any I have on my bikes, I believe. I will go back and but it and bring it home on Tuesday (The store is not open again till...
Thanks, I believe the pics might be deceiving as to the frame size. I didn't notice the stand over height being very high. I went back today but the store closes earlier than I expected so I know nothing more.
Yes, in my favorite local thrift store. Asking $100 but I'm a regular customer and can probably get it for a little less. A couple more pics... front hub front rim rear rim I believe the stand will be included in the price.
I just found this...Sorry I couldn't get a good overall pic.
The serial number is 694517. Can anyone tell me the date of mfg? I did not ride it because the tires are flat but I spun the wheels and they are true. I'm thinking about it.
I picked up this Montag Blue Horse bike.
It has the wrong fenders, missing the chain guard, and slightly bent forks but I can fix it.
Anybody else on here got one?
In the next week, or two, I'm going to put this together. It's a Huffy Impalla. I just got the Duro red wall tires for it. I will install them, along with new tubes & liners, and a new chain. I plan to either replace or regrease all the bearings and rebuild the rear hub. Then it'll be done. My...
I was looking at the pics myself and had to go have another look. The Huffy Tempest does have 24" wheels. I thought they looked too large to be 20s. My bad. Good , I don't need any 20s. It will clean up and make a nice wall hanger at least.
Actually, I looked closer and found that the Huffy Tempest has 20" wheels. I was kinda ignoring it, looking at the Cheetos bike and the trike.
The Studebaker is a Commander, not a Champion. It's a V8 automatic, most , but not all Champions were sixes. Champions were the "economy" models.
I haven't been buying bikes in a while, but on the 4th, yesterday, I checked out the local Craigslist. I found a package deal.
A Huffy Tempest, girls bike with 24" wheels that will clean up well.
A Cheetos bike. The paint will clean up nicely. The only thing "unique" to the bike is the...
Morton, thanks for the encouraging words.
I didn't start this thread as an advertisement to sell the bikes. I was pretty much just stating the facts as I see them. If I had any bikes that were valuable/collectible I would list them on here to make them available to fellow collectors. Most of...
I have come to grips (pun intended) with a fact. Nine months ago I was involved in a serious car wreck, not my fault. Not that fault matters, the results are the same. I had to have some reconstruction surgery on my badly broken pelvis. Now I can walk again, somewhat, with a cane. However the...
My daughter and son-in-law will be going to Japan soon to live for a while. What bikes should I have them look for there that we might not be able to buy here?
I wish I could ride. On July 18, 2017 another driver crossed the center line and hit me head-on. I was driving my '56 Ford truck. My pelvis was crushed and I underwent reconstructive surgery and am still doing therapy. I can not walk without a walker yet. I hope to be able to ride again...
I tried Sheldon Brown's rubber band and string tip to hold the pawls in place while reassembling the freewheel but could not get it to work. Guess I had the wrong size rubber band. I was able to use a twist-tie from a bread bag.
I've assembled freewheels before, but not with the hub attached to the wheel. The only difference will be putting on the inner bearings. I need to put this wheel back together now and deal with the pie plate later, after I get the proper tool. Thanks.
I wanted to remove the freewheel on my Western Flyer ten speed to check it out and restore or replace the chrome pie plate behind it. However I was not able to get the assembly off, even after a trip with it to the local bike shop. I did remove the gears leaving only the inner part screwed onto...
I have a few Free Spirit bikes. Here's my latest.
It's in nice shape. I have cleaned a little on one half of the bars and one wheel. It will clean up and look like new.I cannot get the rear derailler adjusted so that the chain won't go past the large (low gear) sprocket. I will remove and...
Thanks. The rear derailler is a Suntour VGTluxe. I see no numbers on it , but will remove it, clean it, and look for numbers. The crank arms have "Super Mighty" cast into them. The brakes are Gran Compe and the shifters are Suntour. The rims are Rigida.
I watched the vid on Youtube. Interesting. While at Youtube , I watched a few others. I have now found the most annoying jerk that I've ever seen on there. I bet others know who I'm talking about.
I've dragged out some bikes that I've had for a while that I'd like to restore. This is one of them...
It's a Toscana Sport Deluxe made in Germany.
It apparently had skirtguards on it. See the row of holes in the rear fender.
I have no idea what the skirtguard was made of or how to...
I don't know the year , yet on this.
I just got it. I believe it will clean up very well. The tail light lens is missing. I would like to find a replacement lens or lamp.
I'm not sure how vintage this bike is , but here it is. The front wheel is smaller than the rear, and it appears factory. My question is WHY? Any info wil be appreciated. Thanks.
I have this tandem frame. According to the serial # it was built in May 1974.There is a "lug" only on the right side of the downtube for a shift lever , so I suppose it was a five speed. Any more info would be appreciated. I realize there are some tandem only parts that I would have to find to...
