The reproduction caps I have are made of aluminum and tapped for front and rear axles. I picked up an original set at Monroe last year and they look like this.
Someone made these in a composite material and had them vacuum metalized and they looked pretty good. I think they offered them on eBay as well. Just curious why you didn't get the one Santi had?
The original PW bike was built from an early '50s DX. These are not hard or expensive. Why not get correct if, at a later date, you try to make it correct?
Like the others said not even close for a G519. What is the serial number? Not sure what you consider a high price tag but this is a definite pass for me at anything above $300 and that's if I just had to have it.
I say that based on the numbers I’ve seen. I’d probably lay my money more on a ‘47. If you pull the crank it may have a year e.g “A.S. 47” on it although I’ve seen a lot of post war not marked.
A book could easily be written on this subject and the same mfr sometimes changed frame construction several times. A lot of the earlier mfrs were absorbed by the larger mfrs who were sometime slow in changing over the frames, particularly about 1900-1925, which can make it even more confusing...
Westfield built. Serial will tell you the year. Not a particularly desirable bike and would have to be close to free before I would do anything with it.
Probably dupes but here’s what I got. A fairly steady crowd all day. Talked to a lot of folks and moved a few things. A big shout out to @dasberger for all the hard work and to @markivpedalpusher and @auto1cycle2 for helping me load/unload.
When it comes to pinstripes I don't know of anything that won't remove them. Best you can do is try to sneak up on it but even lacquer thinner takes most of them off.
I updated my posts with prices. All of this will not make it especially trikes/wagons due to space. If you see something you want let me know and I'll load it. PP FF, Venmo, Zelle, and cash accepted. Thanks, Shawn
