Im a big fan of this bobbed rear fender look, I noticed in this pic the rear fender is bobbed but also curled.
any advice as to how this is done?
thanks to Phantom for posting his pic and the use of it.
I have read all your comments and not so surprising we all have so much in common...some of the reasons really hit home.
Bringing things back to life, its a hobby that does not sit on a shelf, its healthy for you physically and mentally. If I have to explain you wont get it. I believe we are all...
Yes Canadian built bike, built for Sears..I have a JC Higgens with almost identical frame, the curved second bar that extends past the tube just a bit is a tell tale JC Higgens feature. Mine is the 1967 model but your headbadge looks older to me.
This reminded me of a tip when you're using your stand. I always attached my bike to the top bar of the frame, until I was in the bike shop and noticed they use the seat post to attach their repair bikes. Not as easy with the oldies as they don't have the easy release seat clamp, but I always go...
When I was a kid we all wanted the Wholey grail "10speed"..I finally acquired one a beautiful 'Sekine" from my Neighbour. Problem is these bikes where not made for the abuse we put them through, frames where fragile, the gears were finicky and usually only ended up with a couple working...
Mmm..this post made me think..why do i collect old bikes...well let's see , they remind me of simpler times, memories of riding with childhood friends, endless summers ,Kool-Aid,, riding to the swimming pool, first feeling of freedom to go wherever I wanted, learning how to fix my bike, riding...
I was thinking that. most of you guys have a box of these in your spare bolt bin, but I'm up here in the Great White North(Alberta) where Schwinn bikes are like Hens teeth!...I didn't know the derailer was made by Huret..im sure I'll find one on eBay using Huret
as usually I have been schooled...
my 'locknut" on my 71 Colligate, from the rear derailer is stripped. the threads on the both pieces are toast.
Its the half nut and bolt that holders the rear derailer in place.
I was going to try and find a set online but wondering if that is what its commonly called 'LOCKNUT'?..thx
Yes I caught the reflector missing and the seat post looked to long, that is why someone put a plastic cap on it to prevent catching there leg...thanks for the comments
Just scored a deluxe cruiser...1980 may 27 build date..seems to be all original, anyone see anything that doesn't look right.
Bought new in Larimie Wyoming. Pretty rare find up here in Canada.
Thanks
Something I found helpful was I put a piece of tape with LOOSEN and one with TIGHTEN on each side of the truing stand.
with the wheel in the stand your essentially looking at The wheel backwards, and I found I was screwing up, so it gives you a visual until you get use to it.
GOOD LUCK with...
I'm looking at a 1980 Deluxe cruiser, springer fork, orig seat rims and tires, here in Canada, hard to tell from the pic but are all deluxe cruisers 26 inch rims?...looks small in the pic.
thanks
sorry guys I'm confused, it's the Presta that I don't like and need to carry the small valve to add air. all the new bikes are coming with the Presta and I don't understand why its now preferred.
Also here in Canada all the replacement tubes also have them, Srader tubes are scarce.
I have noticed the last few replacement tubes I have bought all come with only the new scrader valves. I know my new bikes have them, but it seems like this is the way the industry is going.
can someone tell me why they are better. Now I have to carry the little valve if I'm out and about and...
I love the fenderless look but I also discovered I really like the look of a bobbed rear fender. Leave the bottom bolt down by the crank but cut the top off (bobbed) it looks very cool.
I just put another fender over top the one your cutting to mark my cut, then filed smooth, very easy.
Best to let it go...the more you dig the more it will just piss you off...I have some experience with these thieves and the police won't touch it without some proof and if he is a thief he's just telling you lies of where he got it. Now if you can find he is in possession of your trailer with a...
Curious what you guys use for chain lube...just replaced a chain and rear cog that was severely worn due to no lube and the lubes im looking at are very expensive for a little bottle. Is there something that cheap and works just as well?

my first real bike as a kid was a well loved, Sekine road style bike my dad bought off the Neighbour. At the time to own a Sekine was the pinnacle of biking in my world, they first appeared for sale in our local bike shop and rumor was they came all the way from Japan...very unique designs on...
I like the unrestored look.... this really became apparent from taking my old car to car shows.... after you have seen the 20th beautiful Camaro , Chevelle. Mustang etc that are in showroom condition...I am drawn to the guy with his beat up , rusty, leaking oil classic that is just as proud of...
This post got me wondering where the term Sissy bar came from?...did Schwinn actually call it that?...I assume it was a slang name that caught on since your rider your doubling used it to hold on and was a Sizzy?
Well the tires arrived from Ebay ,and I was holding off installing them...just like looking at them they are so nice compared to the old yellowed gumwalls!...today I installed and as everyone had said they did not inflate evenly....couple of inflate and deflate and some dishsoap with a qtip and...
I neglected to take a picture before disassembly...do I have the nut on correctly on the backside of the derailer?.....what is its purpose as the bolt is threaded.
Just to lock the bolt in place?,,thanks
I found a pair on ebay kenda 26 x1 1.4 x 1 3.8 but the Iso first number is 37 (597) my original tire is 32 (597)....will these fit my S5,s.
What does this first number designate.
THANKS for everyone, s help these these numbers are a real pain to understand!
I have searched Amazon but can't find anything that matches the ISO of 37 597...not a lot of options in Canada for vintage bike tires!...any suggestions?
Are 26x 1 3/8 and 26 x13/4 tire almost the same tire..im assuming wider?....I presently have the 26 x 1 3/4 off my 71 colligate but found these 26 x13/8 at a second hand store brand new...I checked the sheldon brown site and they both have a ISO of 597, whatever that means.
thanks
Beautiful work...im presently working on sanding down my 71 Collegiate...it just occurred to me that appears to be the same frame?
