I would guess the older paint was from local Chicago manufacturers, which Schwinn would typically use, maybe Martin Senour or the more obscure Edward Allen shown on these older cans.
Martin-Senour Company, also called the Martin-Senour Paint Company, was founded in 1878 by Phillip and William...
My wild goose chase this week, after a 45 minute drive, was only to have the seller tell me “it’s gone, somebody must have stole it today”...argh. I suspect he got a better offer in the mean time, ...a**hole, just be honest with someone!
Then I came across this set of Schwinn grips on some...
I’m listing this for someone else unable to post or send pictures. 1955 Hornet in Spitfire Green, 24”, original paint, decals and chrome with a few slight touch ups on the top bar, maybe 1% of the ivory (done correctly). Tough to find parts are all there including correct Troxel seat, which has...
Post war Schwinn. Top of rack is black, sanded and spray painted, legs are original red, comes with reflector and hardware too. Price is shipped in CONUS.
Slim pickings for me recently, I’ve spent more time perfecting a new found interest, trout fishing. But I did find a JC Higgins rear rack, and of all places hanging on a fence on my in-laws property, on my way to a new fishing spot. It’s been there for years, and I usually don’t drive by this...
Had a cool find at an auction yesterday, not bike related, but complete with the box, instructions and decals. Plymouth dealer slot car drag race set, circa 1968.
Had a good Schwinn parts week. And I dug out of storage some old paint cans I’ve had for a while, did a little research on Martin Senour Co. who started in Chicago, then was bought out by Sherwin-Williams in 1917. They used this name from 1903-1913, paint is called Davidson Khaki, surprisingly...
Found another to add to the list!!! This one with an unusual Lincoln downtube decal and Unisco badge, pat. pending rear high flange hub, frame dates to 1940, rims are rough though which is too bad. Actually has one wartime tire yet.
As found '36 Schwinn Motorbike frame, fork (non-locker) and fenders (have front fender wire clip rivets intact, hole for conduit), has not been cleaned or rubbed, looks like someone spray bombed over the original red paint, yet paint matches really well, no crazy overspray on braces, can even...

These came off a '36 Schwinn Motorbike, show typical wear, have not been cleaned and not drilled for button or wires. Selling for someone off the grid, PM me for payment or pay direct to Sam, also call him direct with questions at 608-784-9979 located in WI. Pictures to follow, $100 plus shipping.
Early men's oilcloth Troxel seat with both original tabs, chrome chassis, upper wire brace/front spring has been replaced and silver spray painted as a filler (broken original included and shown). Selling for someone off the grid, PM me for payment or pay direct to Sam, also call him direct...
Bob, would this be for '40-'41 Schwinn? Do you have anything for '47-49 straight bar Schwinn or B-6? And would you consider less than $250 cash plus similar seat parts, chassis, pans etc, even Mesinger long spring parts?
Bars look original to the bike, easy to check, look under the stem section. The Wald uprights flare out while the Schwinn ones rise fairly parallel. Odds are with the ramshorn decal on the chain guard and those correct pedals too this is an all original bike. A new seat and you would be ready...
Check the link from the 1959 Schwinn Reporter article and take the time to read directly from Schwinn https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/schwinn-paint-process.86284/ where they state in black and white, "coated with aluminum enamel" "and baked for 19 minutes". Wouldn't that be more obvious than...

Frame looks prewar like '37-41, yet fenders might be earlier with '36 flat braces (maybe, can't tell for sure on braces), could be later '40-41 snap tank (need better and crisper pictures to confirm) it could just as easily be a post war tank, early '36 style chainguard but even both of those...
Metal stamping in the 50's wasn't an exact science with micrometer stops on the presses like today, and of course there were many different machines and people running them. Production speed was most important, quality control was good but variable as we have seen from examples over the years...
