Hey Jason, unbelievably I just picked up another Golden Flyer right in my neighborhood this weekend that has the correct seat but is missing the rear rack! I'll post picks on another thread.
Hey Jason,
If you wind up with an extra seat let me know, I just picked up a Golden Flyer and its missing the correct seat. And in the past some bonehead cut off the back half of my rack, so I'm looking for one too!
Monster Bike
It sounds like a 'Monster' bike built by/for Coker Tire Co., they were a limited production bike and haven't been produced for several years. The tires were 36" tall!
All you ever wanted to know about oxalic acid...well almost.
I've used oxalic acid (crystals) for quite a while and have had impressive results, especially on chrome. It works pretty quickly too, although I tend to let parts soak overnight.
It does leave a yellowish residue that easily scrubs...
Here's one I restored a year or so ago. I've been thinking about repainting the tank and rack a more accurate color though. I've got more pics/details in my album.
Thanks JD, this has been a stalled (really never started) project for a couple of years now.
I did a Spaceliner restoration for a friend and he gave me this bike to use for parts but I couldn't bring myself to part it out. I'll do something with it sooner or later.
Not a Spaceliner
It looks more like a Western Flyer 'Cosmic Flyer' to me, the chainguard is wrong for a Spaceliner.
Here's my Cosmic Flyer for example;
Congrats!
I'm glad you picked those up Evan, Greg had been dangling those under my nose for some time. Anytime you can get a Spaceliner with a complete tank you're doing good!
Leave the patina, make it rideable!
Here's some example of bikes I've re-done, I love original patina and like I tell everyone 'It's only original once!'.
On all of these I re-greased everything replace tires and tubes and polished NOTHING!
They all look like they were pulled out of a...
Why couldn't this have happened LAST weekend?
I was just up in Canton all last weekend, I can't afford the gas for two trips in a row (plus the Hurst meet the following weekend)!
All I can say is...DANG!
It's still a cool bike and I guarantee the average Joe won't be able to tell the difference (probably most will say, 'I had one just like it...'). Now you've got a one of a kind, it looks like the conversion was done well anyway. Clean it up and ride it!
Houston Area Cruiser Bikes - 'Rusty Riders' - Weekly Rides (now on Facebook)
I had forgotten all about this thread until Javier mentioned it on a recent ride.
Anyway, I guess an update is in order, our group has gotten a little more organized and we are now called the Rusty Riders. We still...
