A while back I read a post on here that a CABE member had a detailed list of date codes for Hawthorne Flyers/ Trail Blazers and Snyder built frames. I don’t remember who that individual was but I sure would like to see that date code list if in fact it does exist.
I picked up this moto bike project (badged Hawthorne Flyer) a while back but unfortunately the previous owner stripped the paint off the bike and primered it. Due to the primer I can only make out the letter “O” and a smaller number 9 slightly angled. I looking to find out the year made and if...
Hello folks, I‘m seeking help with trying to identify the maker and year of this Deluxe Flyer wagon. I cleaned the wagon with some mild soap and water and was able to clearly see the markings as you see pictured. I tried doing some reearch on google but couldn’t find anything that had the same...
I received a new spring clip from Gordon (Thank you!) and I disassembled my hub and noticed that I have a total of 21 disc (10 tab & 11 tabless) inside of my Model “D” hub. Could that have been why my brake was not engaging? Since I have everything disassembled how can I tell if the disc are...
The spring clip is on it way and once it gets here I will get into the rear hub and replace it. So I might as well take advantage and relube the disc and bearings. Is there a good thread here that walks you through the entire rebuild. Also what type of oil should I use on the disc.
What is the standard amount of disc that need and in the hub and in what order are they suppose to be? Do you start off with the disc with tabs on the outside first or do start off with the plain round disc first?
Hello fellow Cabers, I have a ND Model D rear hub on my Schwinn and when I try to engage the brake it does not stop and just keeps coasting. I have previously cleaned the hub, greased the bearings and oiled the disc but It still didn’t help. I didn’t notice any issues with any of the internals...
I picked up these Schwinn scripted/stamped hub straps a while back at a local swap meet and had them reinforced with some leather at the back. They were on their last leg but now they can be reused again. They are still a bit stiff/dry but need a little soaking in some type of leather...
I picked this up awhile ago just the way you see it and I'm not sure if I am missing a few washers and a bushing?. I know the speedometer mounts to goose neck but how does it mount to the wheel? Please see the attached picture and let me know what I maybe missing? Thanks Monarky
Wow!!! I have the same 1947 Monark in no where near that good of condition and the only thing missing on that bike is the pedestal light. For $225 that is a steal for an all original paint bike. Go buy it before someone else does.
Up for sale is this early style (prewar?) Bendix (36 spoke) front hub axle. It spins freely, has decent chrome and has the words "Bendix, El Mira, N.Y. U.S.A." stamped on the center spool of hub. I'm asking $35 dollars (as is) which includes shipping and tracking number in the lower 48 states...
I had a good time riding with the Foothill Flyers, catching up with some old friends and meeting new ones. I hope to see everyone again at the next ride. Best regards, Monarky
WTB 28" Rain Gutter fenders for my Hawthorne Flyer. Show me what you got to sell and help me get started on my New Years resolution project. Please PM and let me know if you have a set for sale. Thanks Monarky
Bravo....great job on the faux-resto. I think you need to start a thread on the resto process that you followed to get this motobike looking so good. Enjoy the ride.
Thanks guys, I was wondering if there is a lubricant on the market that doesn't collect dust or dirt to prevent the inside mechanism from getting stuck.
Are the Monark head set cups both the same size or is one different in size between the top and the bottom cups and I'm not asking about the diameter but more about the depth size where the bearings sit? Or in other words is one taller than the other?
Well for 2017, I plan on finding a bit more riding time and finish two projects. The first project is a 1960s JC Higgins Flightliner (which is pictured here) and the second project is a 1920s Hawthorne Flyer (not pictured). I also wish everyone here a Happy New Year.
Yes...What I did was powder coated the original pan and sent it to him to recover it in the antique brown leather for that vintage look. So as the seat was being recovered by Bob, I cleaned up the original chassis and kept the original black paint. As you can see the seat looks great over the...
Hello Folks, I picked up this Speedometer a while back and it cleaned up nicely. The only thing that I need some help with is what type of lubricant can I use to help the bottom wheel clip spin freely. It current spins but a little tight. Also I'm not sure if I'm missing any other hardware to...
Nice Monarks "The Tinker" thanks for sharing. I have been a member here on the CABE since 2012, when I got the bug with my first Monark and all the members here have been very helpful. Monarky
Hi Bicycle Larry, it's good to hear from you. Yes please let me know so I can try to find the correct size for my Monark. If you have an extra set for sale please let me know as well. Thanks Monarky
Does anyone know the correct Monark head set size or diameter size for the early 1947 thru 1949 Super Deluxe models? I tried using a modern day re-pop set but I have some play in the fork? I'm trying to find an original or correct size set to replace the China made repop set, any help would...
Hello Folks, just wanted to share pictures of my new Troxel Long Spring seat that Bob U restored for me and is now on my 1938 Colson. I had Bob restore it in an antique brown leather, for that vintage look. It came out nice and looks great on my bike, many thanks to Bob U!
Well since you asked... I have been looking for the bottom bracket to a klaxon or Seiss horn. I have these two horns that I can't mount without the brackets. Let me know if you have an extras.
